fandomhighdorms | The Pool; Thursday Evening [ 11/18 ] -- POOL PARTY!!!

It was finally Thursday! It was finally party time!

And Ariel, not wanting to be a disappointment in carrying the tradition of Atlantican parties onto the land, had gone all out, showing up at the pool as soon as she was finished with Glee Club to get everything set and ready for when the party was going to start. The decorations were slightly insane, and had been...an interesting challenge to put up, but Ariel had managed without falling into the pool too much. And off in an area where the splashing was unlikely to spoil anything, she'd set up a food table with all of her favorite human foods (she was going to do some Atlantican ones, but she'd have to make them herself, and no one wanted that) and a dance floor with a DJ booth for Jono.

How she got all this down here and up was just going to wind up being one of those great mysteries of life, but she knew that hard work and perseverance and obsessive planning had really paid off.

But, of course, it'd be nothing without guests.

//Well, yes,// Jono replied, using a tone which was about as close to reason as Jonothon ever managed, //I suppose you could, provided I was about to let you, of course.//

Argue with Jono logic if you dare.

"I'm the birthday girl," Ariel pointed out. "You have to let me do whatever I want. And I want to help you carry more of your stuff."

Consider Jono logic soundly trumped.

.... Bugger.

//Fine, fine.// He reached into one of the bags that he was carrying, and pulled out... a CD, holding it out to her. //More stuff.//

Well, she hadn't been terribly specific, was the thing.

Ariel took the CD and gave Jono a dubious look back.

"Oh," she said, "I am so glad I can help relieve your burden so much. What would you do without me, Jono?"

//Break my back, I'm sure,// Jono replied, picking a spot out for the things near the wall and starting to head that way. //And then I'd have to spend th'rest of the evening propped up against th'wall, playing music for the enjoyment of all.//

Which was exactly what he was planning to do anyhow, yes.

Not that she meant to mimic narrative, or anything, buuut...

"Wasn't that what you were going to do all night, anyway?" Ariel asked. "Then again, you wouldn't be doing that, either, if it weren't for me."

//Oh, I owe you then, do I?// Jono raised his eyebrows a little in response to that, oh yes. //My apologies, then, for being so difficult, luv. Certainly I should repay you for the opportunity to listen to music all night by shoving all of th'heavy bags yer way.//

Or, rather, by setting them on the floor in the most dry spot he could find. Same thing, right?

Close enough.

Ariel nodded. "Oh, yes," she said gravely. "You owe me big time."

//Well then, if you've got yer heart set on carrying heavy things about, yer more than welcome to head back to th'door and grab the other bags of CDs that I brought.//

... What? She really thought that this was it? She'd asked him to DJ.

"Well, I am the hostess," Ariel reminded Jono, "I can't exactly go and get them, but if you bring them down and leave them at the door, then I'll help you carry them over here."

Jono gave a good-natured roll of his eyes.

//It figures,// he mused. //Wants to carry everything, but not all th'way.//

Hopefully, the smile and the wink that he gave her helped to soften those words some, there.

As if they were ever really that hard to begin with.

"Oh, you know I'd love to help you go get them," Ariel said, "but I am bound by duty, alas!"

//Such a difficult life, innit? And you have one of these 'birthday' things every year? It's a wonder a gel can catch a break at all, really.//

And he actually leaned sideways a little to lightly bump her with his elbow. There were apparently worse ways in Jono's mind to spend an evening than playing music for the birthday party of a friend.

Ariel was lightly going to nudge Jono back.

"It's a tough job," she said, "but someone's got to do it. I just hope I can brave through a night of fun, music, and good company."

//Most of whom appear to be gravitating toward th'water,// Jono noted, looking toward the party guests. //Really, luv, I won't keep you from visiting yer friends by making you carry all of this mess just because I got a touch carried away.//

"Psh, go big or go home!" Ariel said, waving her hand. And not looking at her decorations. Ahem. "But I will let you get back to setting up, and I'll come bug you later for music, okay?"

//That sounds wonderful, Sunshine.// Jono gave her a little nod of his head, and even a small wave. //I've got to collect th'rest of those CDs, at any rate. If there's anything you enjoy this evening, let me know. We'll call whatever those albums are yer birthday present, alright?//

"Sounds good," Ariel said with a nod. And had to go ahead and go up on her tip-toes to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thanks again, Jono. You're the best."
