The sixth floor had been transformed into a proper Winter Wonderland, complete with twinkling lights adorning the walls, and... snow?

Yes, snow. Inside. Don’t ask how it got here. Or why it wasn’t melting despite the fact that the room itself was a comfortable temperature. If someone did ask, the only answer they’d get was a mysterious smile from Karla and a slight waggle of her fingers. Whatever conclusion they wanted to draw from that was fine.

But it wouldn’t be a party without the food, of course, which is why there were several tables with all sorts of (vegetarian-friendly) snacks and drinks, and, yes, a cake. Made by Sookie and not either of the two people organizing this party. ~~Which meant it was safe for human consumption~~. Speakers hidden behind fake trees were playing soft New Agey music, with a few instrumental holiday carols thrown in. Even some of the tinsel from yesterday had been saved and used to decorate.

Come in, relax, and help the birthday girl celebrate her first party in style.

Raven followed Karla up to the 6th floor, unaware of what was waiting. She looked around in confusion. "Karla, I think someone is having a party up here today."

"Really?" Karla said, pretending to be confused. "Huh, you know what? I think you might be right. In fact, I think it's a..."

Three...two...one!

"SURPRISE!"

Give Raven a moment here while she tried to process this.

"For me?" she finally managed in disbelieving voice. And then an ecstatic smile began to slowly spread across her face as it sunk in.

"We were going to try to have this in time for your actual birthday," Karla said, opening her arms for a hug, "but certain parties that shall remain nameless interfered with that plan. Hope you don't mind a slightly belated one."

"Not at all," Raven said, gratefully giving Karla a big hug. "I do not know what to say. I have never had a party before! Thank you so much."

"You're very, very welcome," Karla said sincerely, hugging Raven tightly. "It's bad enough I didn't throw you one last year. You think I could let two go by without a party. The occasion of your birth is something worth celebrating, darling."

"This is the first time it has ever been thought of in that way," Raven said, unable to hold back the tears. She'd never felt this special before, at least not special in a good way.

"I'm pretty sure your other friends have appreciated it before now," Karla said, wiping away some of Raven's tears before pressing a kiss to her cheek. "We just hadn't had a chance to show you, yet. I'm glad we have it now."

"Surprise!" Bobby crowed, bounding over to offer Raven belated-birthday-hugs.

Please forgive Raven while she got all wibbly as she hugged Bobby back. "Thank you," she said, holding back happy tears.

"You're welcome," Bobby said. "Happy birthday. A little late, but I'm hoping you won't mind that part too much."

"I do not mind one bit," Raven said, looking around in wonder once she stepped back from the hug. "All this is for me?"

"Well, you might have to share the snacks," Bobby teased. "But yeah. When you said you'd never had a birthday party before, well," he blushed, "I just wanted to fix that."

Raven wiped the back of one hand across her eyes. "Thank you," she sniffled again. "This is the most wonderful thing anyone has ever done for me."

Which made him a bad boyfriend? Or the worst boyfriend?

He'd need to work on that. For the time being, he was going to try to make up for it by offering her a hug.

Raven turned around and gave him a very happy hug. "I did not tell anyone," she said, then corrected herself. "I told Bobby that I had also been born in December, but I did not know he would arrange for something like this for me."

It was going to take a few days to wipe the delighted smile from her face.

//Well, I suppose for all it's worth, I tend not to tell people, either. But I generally get a stern lecture for it when I'm found out.// He didn't even turn to lead in with his shoulder today as they hugged. Birthday hugs totally meant that he'd pay extra close attention and try not to worry too much about silly things like lighting people on fire.

As if she'd let him if she had anything to say about it. She wanted a full on Jono hug. "I know when yours is," she said. "July." She paid attention to the radio.

Damn radio!

Of course, he'd be good and graduated by then. There was no saying that he would even be on the island, come his own birthday. But the principle of the matter still stood.

Jono better not dare bring up that fact and spoil her birthday.

"You would not wish to be surprised in such a way?" Raven said, not above using her gifts to see if he really didn't want it or was just saying he didn't. "I find it wonderful -- this is the first time my birthday has been celebrated in such a way."

"Thank you, Leda," Raven said with a smile.

"Happy birthday!" Dolf called merrily. "It's a good one, yes?"

"It is," Raven said happily. "This is my best birthday ever."

He laughed. "I'm happy to hear that," Dolf said, sincerely. "I think you've earned a big party."
