Fifth Floor Common Room [Sunday morning]

After so many requests for pancakes from her own children yesterday morning, Sookie figured that might be a theme for the weekend. And when she woke up, and Henry wasn't gone, at least, she'd run out to get a few supplies before returning to the common room to see what she could put together. (Though, of course, Henry had insisted on coming with her once he realized she was Going to the Store and he might Get Stuff.)

It clearly just wasn't her own children she was worried about, here, Drake/di Glacia/Stackhouse appetites aside. Sookie had bought enough things to make breakfast for pretty much any kids (and parents) who showed up. She was setting to work on the pancakes, but in other pans she was busily scrambling eggs and frying up some bacon. She'd also made a point to buy orange and apple juice and milk both chocolate and white, because there was no way in hell she was letting more of those kids just drink coffee. She didn't care if it was for a weekend, it was just irresponsible.

Leda rarely bothered with shields when she was around Karla. So her slight envy wasn't hidden. "That's Fandom, just when we think we've seen it all, it proves us wrong. It even reschedules stuff just to keep us on our toes."

"Yeah," Karla said, bumping Leda's shoulder with her own in sympathy. "I had just gotten used to the idea of expecting little children to show up! So of course Fandom has to change the dance that they show up after. Just like the island."

"How are they getting along?" Leda asked. She'd heard in the past of kids fighting over the parents.

"Let's see, this morning I broke up three fights over who got to wear what shirt, five about who got to hold my hand as we walked upstairs, nine about whose version of is better and I think another four about whose father is the best. Most of the last ones were between Kayla and Jaenelle, but I think Bobina was involved with the last one. Which is why Jaenelle now has an ugly bruise, from where Bobina pinched her."

Karla rubbed her eyes. "Mind you, we've only been up for a few hours."

"So, like siblings then." Or so she'd heard. Wiseguy and Mooner had told her stories.

"So I assume?" Karla said. "It's similar enough to some of the fights I used to have with my cousin Morton. Here's just hoping they don't decide to start pulling the same pranks we used to."

"Well they've got both magic and technology to work with so I bet they'll be able to come up with all new ones." Not helping Leda.

"Well, that's just terrifying," Karla groaned, covering her face. "I'm never going to be able to sleep again."

"Oh I'm sure it won't be that bad. From what I know of the parents, they might be mischevious but you're all basically good folk."

"Being 'good' doesn't extend to 'not giving Mommy heart attacks' or 'letting Mommy get a decent night's sleep,'" Karla informed Leda wryly. "Believe me, I have learned this much already."

"You could always use shields to make an invisible playpen?" Or phantom hands to separate the children if neccesary.

"Right now? One of my daughters outranks me," Karla said with a sideways grin. "It hasn't occurred to her yet, but Jaenelle Mara wears the Red. Anything I try to do with the Sapphire, she can overpower."

Leda frowned thoughtfully. "Okay now that could be a problem, once she figures it out. Quick, instill values."

"Well, her mother outranks her, I'm pretty sure," Karla said, running a tired hand through her hair. "I just don't yet."

Though, was there a tiny hint of glee one of her children was potentially strong enough to wear the Black? Maaaaaybe.

"Oh so it's not necessarily an inborn thing? You can get more powerful?"

Karla nodded. "The Birthright Ceremony comes first," she explained, toying with her Sapphire. "We're only six or seven then. Then when we're older, usually around twenty, we make the Offering to the Darkness and can descend to our true, mature strength. With a Birthright Sapphire, I have the potential to descend to the Ebon-gray. Jaenelle Mara wears the Red, one Jewel rank darker than I mine. She may be able to descend to the Black, the darkest and most powerful Jewel there is."

"So, as a child, your daughter is stronger than you were?" Leda asked. "Future you must be bragging her guts out."
