The Roof, Saturday Evening

After spending the last bit of his vacation hiding from the world and clinging to his laptop, it was time for Tony to brave the world again. And pray no one remembered he got drunk and puked on a tree.

It was all Bobby's fault anyway.

So he was going to get a bit of fresh air up on the roof before going to his lab for the rest of his life. It was for the best, really.

"You realise that the longer you hide, the more likely she is to mock you, right?"

"..." Damn your logic, Ender. "Do you think a text message would work?"

"Yes," Ender said, with a vaguely amused little smile, "If you want her to know that you're hiding from her."

"Friends text each other all the time," Tony insisted. "I could text you and I wouldn't be hiding."

Ender shot him a look. "You didn't vomit on a tree in front of me," he pointed out. "Or called me pretty -- which I'm thankful for, don't take me wrong. Context is everything, young grasshopper."

"It's okay, Ender. You're very pretty," Tony assured him with a snort.

"And now you've ruined it," Ender said, sighing.

"With your--eyes. And hair." Smooth, Tony. Smooooth.

"I can't understand why Stephanie isn't swooning at your feet."

"I am good at this, aren't I?"

"You so smooth, they use your shit for scarves and baby butts," Ender said, more than happy to abuse horrible, horrible Battle School pidgin.

"...what?"

"No," Ender said, deadpanning, "You are not good at this."

Tony let his head flop forward to start laughing. "Totally the joke, Ender."

"Please leave my hair alone, Tony," Ender said, seriously.

"Not even to suggest dying it green?"

"I'd rather not. I look silly enough as it is."

"...blue?" Tony suggested.

"'Fraid not."

Tony just shrugged and leaned back against the wall. "So, do you know anyone who can read Chinese?"

"Yes," Ender said, without missing a beat, "But he's currently in China. Thai, I can do."

"Thai? That's different." FUTURE, TONY. "Anyone here?"

"Not that I know of," he said, apologetically. "I can check. Why?"

"I was just looking into a few things my dad had been researching before--before." He was leaving it at that. "And a lot of it is in Chinese."

Ender pursed his lips and thought that over for a minute. "I'll see what I can find," he said.
