Second Floor Common Room, Wednesday Morning

Ben had rambled something about cartoons and catchphrases back while they were heading towards Eros, and so Ender was trying to make a concerted effort to at least find out what he'd been talking about.

So: he was out here in the morning, eating cereal from a bowl. And looking increasingly more dubious about the reruns of We're Lyke Spies he was watching. As an experiment, it was not a particularly succesful one. Oh well.

Give him another ten minutes, and he'd be watching bloody Shakespeare movies again.

Alex didn't have to be awake but he was and that freaking sucked. Trudging down to the common room to try and scrounge up some food, he wandered in, caught sight of what was on the television and raised an eyebrow at Ender.

"Can we watch The Smurfs next?" Alex quipped sarcastically. "Or you got some other cartoon lined up?"

"You can watch whatever you like," Ender said, utterly failing to rise to the bait. "I was told I had to check this out, but I'm over it."

"Someone told you to watch this?" Alex asked, unsurprised by the failure to rise to the bait. He'd formed the opinion that Ender was just permanently on Valium or something. "Who told you to watch cartoons? Five year old brother?"

"My roommate," Ender said, taking a spoonful of cereal and swallowing it before he said anything else. "I don't have any younger siblings."

Just older ones, but he was still avoiding referring to Peter as one.

"I love Smurfette," Juliet announced guilelessly.

Sarcasm ... was not really her specialty.

"Yeah?" Alex asked, half smiling. "I was always a Hefty Smurf man myself but I always got stuck on why they were blue and small and not Keebler freaking Elves."

"Well," Juliet said sincerely, "because the elves bake cookies. I don't think Smurfs bake, do they?"

And now she wanted some cookies to go with her Pop-Tarts.

Upon walking into the room, Tony paused and stared at the television. "Wow, that is colorful."

And he'd know. Being from a neatly color coordinated show himself.

"Apparently modern-day spies really need to jump out," Ender volunteered, glancing over the back of the couch.

"I'm pretty sure that can't be right," Tony replies, taking a seat on the arm of said couch. "I'd have heard online if S.H.I.E.L.D. ran around in bright pink."

Geeks would have been all over that crap.

"Or maybe you wouldn't have," Ender said. "Maybe bright pink has some strange psychological effect that makes you unable to see it."

Silly teenage boy banter, he could do, after the weekend he'd had.

"I think it's gateway porn," Alex shared, glancing up at Tony. "They're just gonna ease kids into it."

Tony tilted his head, trying to find where it could be confused with porn. He may be more interested in science, but he was still a teenage boy. "It is kinda Japanese," he granted Alex.

And the characters did get tied up more than strictly necessary...

Alex raised an eyebrow at that...half agreement with his ridiculous statement. "Watched a lot of Japanese animated gateway porn, man?"

"And they have an amazing sense of style," Juliet added. "Hi, Tony."

"Yeah, but they're spies," Tony replied with a friendly wave. "Spies are supposed to blend in."

"I know that," Juliet said, rolling her eyes the tiniest bit. "But maybe they're spying on a completely fabulous setting. Like, New York Fashion Week. You couldn't go to that looking messy."

"Oh wow," Juliet observed as she wandered into the common room. (It wasn't hers, but she had a little free time before class and felt like being around people.) "Those cartoon girls have amazing hair. Are there Pop-Tarts?"

"I think there might be some in the top drawer," Ender said. And saw his chance to zap away from the cartoon quickly slipping out of his fingers. Oh well. "Good morning."

He could change the channel: it would just produce an unseemly amount of pouting.

"Top drawer," she murmured, poking through it until she produced a box in triumph. "Yep, you were right. There was this whole sugar craving thing going on."

"It's a Wednesday morning in a dorm full of teenagers," Ender proclaimed, "If there wasn't sugar, we'd probably have a riot on our hands."

Firekeeper was on the prowl. For... breakfast, mostly. Blind Seer was less interested in human breakfast foods, but was by her side as always.

"What," she said slowly, giving the television a dubious look, "is this?"

"It's a cartoon," Ender said, greeting her with a quick, wry smile, "Ostensibly about spies. Very colorful ones."

"Spies is supposed to be quiet," Firekeeper tried to puzzle out. "In background. These- do not look as if they spend much time doing that."

"No, that's probably the curious thing about it," Ender agreed, a little amused. "I haven't figured it out yet myself."
