Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

It was late morning, nearing noon, and Ender had finished his morning exercises a while ago. He'd sat down to work in his room afterwards, but this sense of-- moroseness he had been trying to avoid wouldn't leave him alone, making him restless and a little irritable. Jane's commentary about that hadn't really helped either.

Which was why right now he was curled up on the couch in the common room, with Animal Planet playing some documentary about Brazilian tree-frogs in the background. He'd taken the datapad Ben had given him for his birthday with him, and he was poking idly through stats for alien races he'd never heard of before.

He was still a little restless, but at least he was less irritable. The calm, he could fake.

"I'm pretty sure that's a brand of chatter only he can pull off."

"But the concept is good still," Tony insisted.

"Most people are generally just inclined to use slurs," he said, "Insults to the enemy's prowess. It's basic but it works."

Tony paused. "I don't think I'll be doing any slurs." Because that was awkward.

"Just an example," Ender said, amicably. "Back when I was in military school, references to shimmying butts were big."

Because it was a very, very gay place. Oh, Orson.

Yeah, Tony was just going to let that one go. Because wow. Wow.

"...well, you were a lot younger then."

"Six years old, give or take," Ender said, shooting him an amused look. "So I don't think that one would hold out, no."

"I think it would only confuse people," Tony admitted.

"Which would be one of the effects Deadpool goes for," Ender said, "But probably not one you'd want to try in public at a high school."

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure Rhodey is sighing at me right now and doesn't know why."

"I hope for your sake he's not actually monitoring you," Ender said, with an amused look. "So how are you enjoying our first quiet weekend in weeks...?"

"It's nice to not have to repair all the damage a younger me did to my suits again," Tony admitted.

"I tried to talk you out of it," Ender said, lightly. "You weren't much of a listener when you were a kid."

"My dad stopped trying after I took apart the oven when I was four," Tony admitted.

"It only happened a few times!"

"Well, so much for the theory behind the Skinner box..."

Tony snorted and rolled his eyes. "It was a trial an error thing."

"Considering you're still alive, I suppose I'll have to take that as read," Ender said. "No strange twitches when you hear a thunderclap...?"

"Not to my knowledge." Wait until Thor showed up, though.

"Should I keep an eye on you during the next thunder storm?"

"Oh," Ender said, with a brief smile that wasn't completely mirthful, "I didn't have to worry about electrocuting myself at that age. I was reprogramming school computers."
