The Deck [Sunday, Late Morning]

Obligatory holiday call to Ellie down, and Chuck had taken his book and a 'breakfast' of a glass of Jelly Beans outside and found the he could add Peeps to the menu (so long as he was quick enough to get hold of them before the three second rule applied). The island didn't want him to be healthy today, so who was he to try and derail that plan? Seemed awesome to him.

He didn't have any grand ideas for ways to spend the day, so he was keeping it simple flopped out on a lounger with a book. It was pretty decent out for now, and he'd decided to relax and enjoy it.

"Eddard, " he mumbled through a mouthful of Peep, "you don't let your kids keep a direwolf, that's a terrible idea..." Even while reading, Chuck was physically unable to keep from talking, even if no one was likely to be listening.

[[Yeah, this would be a combination of Method RP and canon. Open!]]

Trying to shower this morning had yielded a stream of jelly beans falling onto his head. That had put Percy in a crappy mood so he'd tried to get rid of that by heading to the beach for swim. It was warm enough and the water was water there.

He was coming back now, towel draped around his neck and wet hair clinging to his head when he spotted someone on the deck, talking to himself while reading.

"The book's not talking back, is it?" Percy asked because he couldn't really rule that out.

"Well, that's comforting at least," he said, stepping up onto the deck and wincing when something rained down on his head.

Again.

When he looked and found yellow Peeps, he frowned and stared up at the sky, wondering if Zeus was having himself a laugh or something. "What is it with this day, man? First jellybeans and now this."

"I actually went home so I missed all that fun," he said, snagging a Peep off the ground and sitting down, intending to dry off before going back inside the dorms. "I just gotta wonder where this food is coming from. Like, is it even fresh?"

Percy blinked and looked from Chuck to the Peep he had in his hands and back to Chuck. "Have you...studied Peeps extensively or are you just putting me on right now?"

"Wow." Percy wasn't sure if he was impressed or...weirded out. He'd go with impressed for the moment. "I never got these as a kid. Too messy, not enough money, I wanted chocolate, blah blah blah. But, sounds like these and Twinkies could be grouped into the same category of indestructible food."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Darn, I was hoping to get a lecture on the chemical components of Twinkies today!" No, that wasn't true at all and Percy smiled to make sure Chuck knew it.

He stood up to toss the Peep away and turned to try and sit back down when he noticed the Cadbury Egg in his seat. "...you didn't put this there, did you?"

Percy picked the chocolate egg up and showed it to Chuck. "You're not the Easter Bunny, are you?" That was less serious than the previous question.

Snickering, Percy picked up the egg and sat back down. "Imagine the mess if I'd sat on this, right? I think I'd have been wanting the Easter Bunny's damn head on a plate. Apparently, this island is having some fun today."

While it was true that Alexander was used to a lot of odd things happening to him, this morning, all the candy everywhere was feeling like a bit much, and he definitely needed to get outside and get some fresh air.

...

"Is there something...different out here?" he asked, once he got to the deck and took a look at the odd-looking grass that most certainly did not look right.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"That," Alexander noted, "sounds much better than eating all of this. If I didn't know any better, I'd think the island was trying to get rid of us all now that the semester is over by killing us with an overdose of sugar..."

And the morbid part was that Alexander sounded almost genuinely concerned about that. That's what you get when you spend your whole life knowing that someone will try to kill you once they were finished with you...

At the mention of eating about twenty of those things, Alexander's stomach clenched in a sort of residual sugar sickness. He grunted a little, hand on his torso. "You are a stronger man than I," he readily admitted. "I doubt I would be able to keep so many down."

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not so much the strangeness of them," Alexander said, looking at one of the Peeps he'd caught in his hand, "though they are certainly odd. My concern is more in the fact that they cannot possibly be made of anything other than sugar, sugar, and, well, more sugar."

There was a faint pause as he frowned down at the little bird and decided that he didn't think he could eat it, and his attention shifted toward curiosity.

"How much stranger, if I may ask?"

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"I...see," said Alexander, carefully, although his really didn't. Not enough to be confident, anyway. It did leave him wondering if this was one of those things where Rosella would say what they were eating was something much stranger than it actually was... "What was the worst, then? I really can't imagine too much I haven't eaten that I thought was particularly strange until I started coming here..."

"A...Happy Meal?" Alexander asked, since he had the feeling this was something more than just a meal that one might enjoy to great pleasure. Of course, that was a possibility, too, though, clearly, Chuck's experience had lead it to become a Very Unhappy Meal Indeed.
