So yesterday had been- well, weird didn't even cover it. And today? He'd managed to find the laundry room, at least, and lucky for him they didn't need quarters or whatever to operate, so now at least what little he owned was clean. There'd also been a real honest-to-god shower to be had, and so so far Toby was counting today as a win.

There was still a part of him quietly freaking out about the weird stuff everyone had told him about yesterday, but for now? Toby was content to eat some leftover pizza he'd snagged from the picnic and channel-surf.

"Some of them are smart enough to be pretty dangerous," Mercy said quietly.

"I know," Alex said. Their fear was his province, and the results were his dad's. He totally knew. "That's just how the world is," he said with a shrug, not wanting to think about the morality of being Fear or something.

She nodded. "Unfortunately."

"Well, now that we're all depressed and all," Alex tried to joke, "you want some Chinese food?"

She laughed. "Chinese food sounds great, actually. Got anything spicy?"

"I have, um..." Alex rummaged through the boxes. "I have a bunch of stuff. I went a little overboard. Kung Pao chicken?" he offered, holding the box out to her.

"Oooh, that sounds wonderful, thanks!"
