Sixth floor kitchen- Wednesday late morning and afternoon

Today seemed to be a busy day for a lot of things, but Annie hoped people would show up for today's cooking extravaganza for tomorrow's Thanksgiving feast. When she wasn't in class, Annie was here, getting things set up or trying something from a recipe book. Cooking was easy, right? You just put stuff together according to directions. Nothing hard about that, and way easier when you weren't four.

Moddable ingredients and utensils and things were available for anyone who wanted to stop by and help!

[So open, and set so no one has to choose between this and reserves or the party. I may or may not be slow, so you'll just have to ping in and talk to each other too. *nods*]

Elphaba had arrived after the reserves meeting, mainly because she wanted to make sure there were pies and the like she could eat tomorrow. She carefully sort of segregated her ingredients and prep space, not to be unsocial, but just to be careful not to accidentally un-vegan her cooking.

She would, however, make an effort to be social. "I think we might be expecting far more people to be around this year for this harvest celebration, all things considered."

"Yeah, that's what I was thinking," Annie agreed. "One of the reasons I hope a lot of people show. Running out of food would be kind of bad..."

"And it's just good to plan ahead, really," Elphaba said. "Make sure to cater to the general sorts of different dietary needs, so no one is left out, and just... well, I'm not exactly a masterful chef, but this sort of work is rather relaxing."

"Looking that way," Karla agreed, up to her elbows in dough.

Okay, it was supposed to be dough. For the dinner rolls. But the consistency was something much closer to batter. Or perhaps machine oil.

"Between Portalocity and the Causeway, people will be lucky if they can leave and double-lucky if they can get back."

And triple lucky if they didn't vanish somewhere in between.

"Exactly," Elphaba said. "And the last thing we need for tomorrow is for people to be extra upset because of missing out on this holiday. It will only make things go from bad to worse."

"Okay, so I'm far from an expert," Petra said as she arrived, still tying her cupcake-print apron on, "but I think most Thanksgiving stuff is secretly pretty easy anyway, right? I mean, the pumpkin pie recipe's right on the back of the can."

"Yep! And if you can call the Butterball hotline for the main thing at dinner, I figure the sides and stuff have to be easy," Annie reasoned.

"Oh, we're not going to use real pumpkins?" Karla asked, sounding a little crestfallen.

It should be noted Karla didn't have the slightest idea how to turn a pumpkin into a pumpkin pie. She just liked the idea of somehow turning the jack o-lanterns from Halloween into food.

...Not that there were many of those left, either. Karla tended not to give cooking a lot of thought.

Karla had a fairly busy day before her and wasn't really up for dealing with any of it. So she was taking a little 'her time' and heading up to the sixth floor to help prepare tomorrow's meal. Some time in the warmth and comfort of the kitchen while making a meal that could be enjoyed by all of the students and faculty and everything. That would help drive her spirits up, right?

Besides, whoever was cooking could probably use her help. Karla was awesome at cooking.

"Kiss kiss!" she called, trying to at least project the image of a good mood. Like Petra, Karla had an apron, which she thought was hysterical because of irony she was a Black Widow. "Here to help! What can I do?"

Note: the answer should be 'leave the kitchen.' Just as a warning.

Oh, if only Annie knew what Karla's cooking was really like. "Thought I might see you here," she said cheerfully. "Is there anything you really want to make?"

"No, no, no, no, no," Topher said quickly as soon as he spotted her, pointing back toward the door. "You can't cook. You have to leave."

He was super polite like that. And oddly protective over the food. Look, he was just looking out for the stuff that was going to end up his, okay? She could keep the turkey.

Quinn was at work most of the day, but she slipped upstairs during a late break and surveyed the ingredients with satisfaction as she started assembling ingredients for a green bean casserole.

"I'm glad we have everything," she said with satisfaction. "Gunther at the hotel is improvising with canned tuna and dehydrated milk."

"That sounds pretty avant garde for Thanksgiving," Annie decided. "Why's he improvising?"

"Well, that sounds fairly horrifying," Petra said. "And I've had meals that involved grubs and bulrushes."

"You know?" Karla said thoughtfully. "That doesn't sound half-bad."

WHY DID YOU PEOPLE LET HER INTO THE KITCHEN?!?

"I'm guessing you actually know what you're doing with that," Caroline remarked, observing Quinn and her ingredients and considering her own. "I maintain that I'm way better at ordering things and making people happy that way. But then, maybe I just have the recipe for cooking disaster. What is that going to be, anyway?"

Despite no one really wanting her to help cook, Caroline stopped in to do her StuCo duty! Um, with a box of stuffing and a jar of gravy. "This might be better if we make it tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it counts as a side, right?"

Just pray she doesn't find the salt.

"I think one of those counts more like a condiment, but I think so!" Annie said cheerfully. Considering Caroline had said she wasn't much with the cooking, she wasn't going to try to discourage boxed stuff.

And yet she was fairly clueless on Karla. Sigh.

"Do you mind if we put oysters in part of it?" Petra asked hopefully. She was kind of excited about getting some oyster stuffing now, yes.

Rilla was running a little late as her mun had to cook ALL THE THINGS because she needed Jims to wake up from his nap, but she was there!

With Jims, a basket of foodstuffs from Susan and a beaming smile on her face. "I heard from home! Well, mail, anyway. It was delayed in Paris of all places."

"Good!" Annie greeted her. "Why was it in Paris?"

"The mail from Canada goes through Paris?" Petra asked. "That's a little worrisome."

Huh. There was food.

Topher pointed to a pie that was currently a work-in-progress. "Can I have that?"

...at least he'd asked.

"Not until tomorrow. It's for Thanskgiving dinner," Annie said warily, suddenly wondering if he was going to try and cook.

"No," Petra told him, "it's for the dinner tomorrow." And she'd smack his knuckles with her spatula if he tried it. "And it's not even done."
