The Dorm Roof, Thursday, Late Afternoon
Sholeh had never been out on the roof before. But when you asked someone for help fulfilling homework assignment and their suggested means of transportation was 'jet pack,' the roof seemed like the best place to start.
Or, at least it did once you looked up what a jetpack actually was.
So, bundled up in her warmest coat and thickest skirts, Sholeh was admiring the view from the roof and boggling a little that soon she'd be seeing the whole island from this vantage.
*Aren't you scared?* Zhahar asked nervously. *To be flying up so high?*
::Are you kidding?:: Sholeh replied, grinning. ::This is so exciting!::
[Open for both fliers and non!]

He wasn't bad at flying, so long as he was pointed in the right direction!
... Landing was a different matter entirely.
"I mean, I promise I won't drop you or anything. That much isn't even a possibility."
no subject
Ignore that slight blush that appeared almost on cue at the word 'friend.'
no subject
"Well... then I'm your guy," he decided. "I mean... for flying... I..."
Yep. He used to know how to speak real words, in sentences and everything, once. And then he took a Sholeh to the heart.
"Hang on tight?"
no subject
"Umm..." Dang it, she had to look back at him again. "Hang on how? How do you want me? I mean--" Zeela's snickers cued her in to realizing that wasn't the best way to phrase it. "How should we do it? Err..."
There was no way she was going to say this right tonight.
no subject
"If you turn around, I can put my arms around you," he offered, after a moment taken to find his voice again. "A... few times, just to be sure you're secure."
no subject
"...Is that what you meant when you said that falling isn't even a possibility?" she asked, trying to figure out how she'd overlooked something as basic as positioning when she'd asked him to help with her homework. "Your arms?"
no subject
He was tentatively wrapping his arms around her, like a hug from behind.
no subject
She looked over her shoulder to offer him a soft smile. "I trust you not to drop me."
no subject
"I'd really prefer you don't fall, too," he replied, and then bit his lip and wrapped his arms around her a couple more times, just to be certain there was no chance of her falling. "You wanted to just fly across the island and back?"
no subject
no subject
"It's no trouble," he insisted, a little too quickly, and then looked out at the sky. "Um... Are you ready? I think we're ready to take off."
Taking off! To fly! Right? Right. That's what they were doing! And not... wiggling.
no subject
"I'm ready," she said, trying not to wiggle more in anticipation. Because while she never had flown before, she was about to. This was so cool! "Let's go!"

The great thing about his jetpack was that he could operate it hands-free. His Uncle Cluster had done good by him when it came to heroing equipment. The jets kicked in and Evan kicked his feet out behind them, using them to steer and pointing them toward the far end of the island.

In case he was uncertain about what was happening, here.
no subject
He'd been flying since he was eleven, so it was difficult to imagine anybody not.
no subject
"Of course not!" she said, shouting half in glee and half to be sure he heard her over the rush of the wind. "What would I go flying with? We don't have jetpacks back home!"

Togetherness activities were temporarily forgotten about in the face of a giant waving tentacle.
no subject
One thing that Evan had never anticipated seeing while flying from one side of the island to the other was a giant squid, really.
"I guess maybe we're supposed to wave back, huh?"
no subject
"Do you know what that is?" she gasped.
no subject
But, you know, Fandom.

He had to kind of admit, a giant giant squid had the better part of his curiosity.

He circled around again, smiling down at the friendly tentacle, until they could make out the shape of a huge, shadowy squid under the water.
"That is really cool."

If it seemed like he was giving her an extra little squeeze when he said that...
... It was because he totally was.
no subject
"It really does," she said when her blushes as cooled. "It's a wonderful place filled with wonderful people."
