The Dorm Roof, Thursday, Late Afternoon

Sholeh had never been out on the roof before. But when you asked someone for help fulfilling homework assignment and their suggested means of transportation was 'jet pack,' the roof seemed like the best place to start.

Or, at least it did once you looked up what a jetpack actually was.

So, bundled up in her warmest coat and thickest skirts, Sholeh was admiring the view from the roof and boggling a little that soon she'd be seeing the whole island from this vantage.

*Aren't you scared?* Zhahar asked nervously. *To be flying up so high?*

::Are you kidding?:: Sholeh replied, grinning. ::This is so exciting!::

"Sure we can," Evan decided, peering down curiously at the squid. "I don't think I want to fly out too far over the water, but we can definitely get a better look!"

He had to kind of admit, a giant giant squid had the better part of his curiosity.

"This is so cool!" Shole said as they got closer. "I wonder what its doing here! It's clearly choosing to be here, because most cephalopods are really, really smart! It could have found somewhere with warmer or deeper waters if it wanted to!"

"Yeah, the water off the shoreline is really cold," Evan agreed, curiously. "That can't be comfortable for it... at all."

He circled around again, smiling down at the friendly tentacle, until they could make out the shape of a huge, shadowy squid under the water.

"That is really cool."

"That might be as big as the whole school..." Sholeh said in the hushed whisper of someone gazing upon something truly awe-inspiring. "Why is it here?"

"Why is anything here?" Evan was beaming, now, with a big smile directed down at the squid. "Maybe here's home? Fandom really does seem to attract things that are special, doesn't it?"

If it seemed like he was giving her an extra little squeeze when he said that...

... It was because he totally was.

Sholeh found herself blushing, glad that she was facing away from Evan as they flew. Had that been an extra squeeze, or was she just imagining things? It was hard to say.

"It really does," she said when her blushes as cooled. "It's a wonderful place filled with wonderful people."
