Fifth floor common room [early afternoon]

Rilla and Jims, dressed in their Easter best, had returned from church on the mainland and were now in the common room. They (well, Rilla. Jims was only so helpful) unloaded an enormous hamper of food that Susan had sent from Ingleside. Despite Rilla being at school for three years, nothing could convince Susan that Yankees knew the first thing about cooking.

So there were hot cross buns and pies and cakes and cookies while Rilla was starting on some eggs and tea and Jims was trying to fit himself into the now-empty hamper.

Have some Easter brunch, everyone! Rilla promises not to check to see if you attended a service.

"Only if they're made of chocolate," Jessica deadpanned.

"With a surprise inside? And I don't mean 'little chocolate innards', no," Emily answered.

"I'm very slightly concerned about what other kind of surprises you might have in mind if the first thing you thought of is 'innards,' so I'm going to say no. Solid chocolate," Jessica said. "Which is the only acceptable way."

[identity profile] reven8e.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"What, aren't the eggs full of toys or stuff like that? But solid chocolate...those are some pretty heavy little kids," Emily said.

"People don't come out of eggs, Emily," Jessica tsked.

Emily snorted, a smile finally cracking its way in her face. "I know that silly, they come out of cabbage."

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"In theory, I think the edible chocolate ones would come from cocoa beans," Jessica pointed out.

[identity profile] reven8e.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Those would be...huge cocoa beans. In theory", said Emily. "Now I sort of want a chocolate milkshake."

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think we may be picturing different scales for our chocolate people," Jessica said. "And milkshakes are pretty much the one thing Rilla hasn't found some way to provide. I'm kind of surprised there's anything she didn't manage to break out for today."

Emily held her hands up, each at around the same length of her shoulders. "Too much?" It probably was too much.

"Don't tell her that or next time she'll get a truck of food. Actually, maybe we should tell her that."

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I couldn't do that to her. This is kind of an insane amount of food as is," Jessica said. "And she's making more while keeping Jims out of trouble. I don't know how it's even possible to balance all of that, but I'd rather not push it."

[identity profile] reven8e.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't even know what would I do with a little kid around me all day. It's not like I hate kids but I just- can't deal with them," said Emily as she casually checked on Rilla.

Damn, still cooking.

"For Sex Ed class last week I had to carry around a bag of flour like it was a baby. I kept it safe and sound in a drawer for my days with it," Jessica said. "If it were a real kid, I would have been arrested."

[identity profile] reven8e.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"But there wasn't any strict indication that you shouldn't have?", she asked after a short laugh.

"On the other hand, now I know who to look for when I find myself with an unexpected amount of flour," Emily said.

[identity profile] craftyladyparts.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"They said to take care of it like it's a child, but they didn't have any kind of tracking devices in the bags. So I considered this to be the equivalent of day care," Jessica said.

[identity profile] reven8e.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ummm...who puts tracking devices in flour? And who looks for tracking devices on a Sex Ed class, anyway?" asked Emily as she squinted at Jessica.

"A girl from a world with crazy super-science," Jessica pointed out. "I'm just saying, if I were teaching a class and wanted to make sure my baby substitutes weren't just sitting in a drawer, I'm at least putting a pedometer or something in them. Something to make sure they were moving around."

[identity profile] reven8e.livejournal.com 2013-03-31 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"You know, I really want to hear more about this crazy super-science, specially if there's a way for me to invest on it," said Emily, because hey, why not? It sure beat investing on cattle or stock or whatever, since it actually sounded interesting.

"And for the record, I would've left the baby flour under my bed."

"Trust me, it's a losing proposition. About half of the companies who get into the game end up resorting to creating illegal genetically altered superbeings just to pay the bills, and that gets them into trouble. Another quarter just make the illegal genetic blah blah blah because they're evil," Jessica said. "The only way to really make money and stay on the right side of the law is to work with the government, and they have guys who can design and build flying aircraft carriers."

[identity profile] reven8e.livejournal.com 2013-04-01 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Whoa whoa, wait a minute. You lost me t illegal genetically altered superbeings," Emily said as she raised a hand. Well, what had she been expecting?

"So you're telling me everyone but the Government is evil on that business?"
