3rd Floor Common Room | Sunday Evening

Stiles was bored, so bored. Bored and unable to focus on anything, it was a terrible affliction. After spending all day in his room doing nothing he decided to broaden his horizons and go to the common room to do nothing. Of course Stiles wasn't actually capable of doing literally nothing so "nothing" for him right now meant continuing his quest to teach himself Archaic Latin while the second Dusk movie was playing in the background.

Shut up, he was watching it ironically. Or something. It was better than watching the Mets play the Pirates. If they lost to the Pirates it'd just be embarrassing and Stiles refused to be a part of it, no sir. He would rather watch lame not-werewolves and sparkly vampires any day.

Somewhere along the way he managed to make an un-burnt bowl of popcorn and poured M&M's in it. 'Cause it was necessary to add them.

[Open, of course. Just for the record it pains me to play a Mets fan]

"It's hazy," he said. "Though doubtful. 'Cause seriously I don't know anybody who is bound to do great things on a grand scale."

Except maybe Lydia.

"Then, I'd leave them to their fate," Jim decided. "I'd be sad but I'd get over it. If they weren't gonna do great things, then I can take the loss and move on."

"What's your definition of great things anyway?" he asked.

Jim shrugged. "Well, the typical stuff like curing diseases, making peace, and all that. Beyond that? Military heroes, people who start a revolution, and on and on. There's no definitive list. If I were faced with a decision like that, I'd make the calculations with the information I had."

"I guess that's fair," Stiles said. "It's not an easy decision to make."

"And I'll probably never have precognition so not really a burden I'll have on my shoulders," Jim said, nodding his agreement. "My superpowers will remain grounded in my devastatingly handsome looks and my unmistakable charm."

"Your ego is astounding."

"I've heard that a lot lately," he chuckled, slouching down to get more comfortable on the couch. "At least you're not talking in riddles to tell me so."

"I prefer the straightforward approach myself," he said. "Doesn't leave room for misinterpretation."

"I'm the same way," Jim said, nodding. "If I want someone to know something, brutal or not, I'm gonna tell them in as few words as I can."

"Few people appreciate that," Stiles said. "They throw out words like 'jerk' and 'asshole' once you try to be honest."

"And then you know they'd do the same exact thing if you lied to them," Jim said with a shake of his head. "We're the unappreciated few, Stiles."
