3rd Floor Common Room : Sunday Afternoon

It'd been a week on the island and nothing catastrophic had happened yet. Theo wasn't sure if he wanted to call that a win but it wasn't a bad start. Thom and Kiori had been amused by the antics of the island and they were already trying to find time to come out there. Things back home were...the same. His friends were keeping Dr. Brockton up to date on his progress and his parents were...off at another seminar.

Of course.

"Cartoons!" Dev bellowed, making Theo outwardly wince at the volume. "We never get to watch cartoons!"

"That's because there's nothing of value in them, Dev," Ange said, rubbing her head like the long suffering Elysian that she was. "There are so many better things to watch."

"There's value in that they're funny," Dev growled, almost pouting. "What do you want to watch? Something about plants?"

"Well, plants are qu -- "

"NO!"

"Cut it out!" Theo snapped, rubbing his temple and frowning. "We're just not going to watch anything!"

And with that, Theo stabbed the remote control and shut the television off. So, now he was just sitting in the common room with the television off and two arguing entities in his head.

His first foray into a common room had gone so well!

"Hello, Cade," Snow said, raising her hand to wave back. "I saw you in the Hitting Things class, but I didn't have time to say hello."

"Too busy hitting things?" Cade guessed with a little grin.

Snow smiled. "I am not very good at it," she said. "Yet. But I am anxious to learn."

"Jaina's pretty badass," Cade said. "She'll teach you. I've had a few of her classes."

"She seems very strong and confident," Snow said. "I think it will be the perfect class for me."

"She's from my galaxy," Cade said, "and we grow up pretty...hands on with having to hit stuff."

Snow was still trying to wrap her head around the idea of other galaxies. And dimensions, for that matter. "Your home is a dangerous place?" she said.

Cade nodded once, looking grim.

"I'm sorry," Snow said. "Is that why you are here? To learn to protect yourself and your family?"

Cade snorted. "No family left to speak of back there," he said a little wryly.

He was karking tripping over them here.

"Here I'm just another student. It's a form of protection."

"This place seems to be a protection for many of us then," Snow said. "At least until I am strong enough to go back."

"Or they graduate you and boot you off the island," Cade added cheerfully.

"I am told I am a junior here and it will be two years until I graduate," Snow said. "Is that what you are? Or something else?"

"This'll be my last year," Cade said.
