The Roof [Monday afternoon]

Four had spent the last week exploring the island, learning the ways out, the places that were easiest to defend, the places that served food (he'd have to talk to the faction leaders about getting his monthly points for food and clothing converted into something he could use here), the places that sold clothing, and most importantly the shooting range and gym.

He was pretty impressed with the facilities, despite Chuck's warnings about them.

And now he was up on the second to last place he had to scout out--the roof--staying by the door and breathing through his fear of heights. After he was done here, he'd check out Selkie Point.

His eyes closed briefly as he worked to calm the pounding of his heart. He'd check out Selkie Point tomorrow, probably. Maybe even the next day.

"About a year and a half. He was much smaller to begin with." Now he tried to take up the whole bed if she even allowed him at the foot of it.

"And probably a lot less ferocious!" The way Rapunzel said 'ferocious' as though it had a W probably said more about her than about Vitor's supposed ferocity, really. "He's adorable. Did you bring him from home?"

"No," she said slowly. "There were these balls that appeared all over the island with puppies and kittens inside. I kept him from one of those."

If that was said a little apologetically, well, it was one more strange thing.

Yeah, that was enough to get her to momentarily tear her attention away from Vitor. "...balls that appeared with puppies and kittens?" she repeated slowly. "Why? Where did they come from?"

"I have no idea. Sometimes things happen here and you get a puppy out of the deal," Sia said.

"Well, that's way better than funny rain or something," said the girl with seventy feet of hair to keep clean. "Or turning into a boy. I heard that happens, too."

"It does. I've never had to deal with it, though," Sia said. "It's best to prepare for it, but it might not necessarily happen."

"I hope I don't grow a beard," she said, worriedly playing with a lock of her hair.
