Uzbekistan Yurt, Sunday Morning

It was safe to say that a dwarf that was presented with a building challenge was a motivated dwarf. That would be why Thorin was halfway through building the so called 'yurt' with only a few, ah, embellishments.

Look, he needed to make it more defensible, okay?

And maybe there were a few decorative touches added to the walls.

Just be glad he didnt feel the need to add a wall around it. Yet.

Hey, Raven was not about to tease the guy who was willing to do all the work. "Do you have a lot of experience with construction?"

Where was he getting those stones?

It seemed that that mine that was always being fought over on strange weekends? Actually existed.

And it was like a dwarven sixth sense to mine for them.

"I have trained in the basics." Which was different for dwarves. "Though I am not a master of such things yet."

"Well, you're young, yet." Raven assumed. "I can't even make heads or tails of the instructions. You're like a natural."

[dwarvenswagger]

"It is in our nature to build," Thorin replied proudly. Oh god, he was going to get such a large head. "Though my talents usually lie more in stone and metal."

"Instead of wood and . . . what's that, leather?" It looked sort of leathery. "I think these things were designed to be portable. Though I can't picture all this on the back of a horse."

[dwarvenswagger]

"It looks to be a treated hide, yes." Which was just Thorin being picky. "Perhaps they split the material between riders."

[tigerundercover]

"I suppose they'd have to. It's a little romantic, though, isn't it? Riding across the plains, your home and all your worldly goods packed to move with you. . . ."

[dwarvenswagger]

It certainly sounded romantic until you were forced into doing just that.

"Perhaps," Thorin granted her carefully. "My people are happiest in our stone halls."

But you had a home wherever you went! As someone who'd spent some of her formative years homeless, that sounded fantastic to Raven.

"Stone halls sound lovely, too," Raven assured him. "If maybe a little echo-y."

That got Thorin to snort in amusement. "That implies a sort of quiet. My home is a city within a mountain."

"So there's nowhere for the sound to go," Raven mused. "Except around and around."

[dwarvenswagger]

He shrugged, smiling at the thought of his home. "It better than living in trees as elves do." Some elves, Thorin. Don't be a dick.

"Your world isn't big on just plain houses, is it."

[dwarvenswagger]

"I think the men of Dale live in homes like they have here." He was teasing now.

[tigerundercover]

"All row houses crammed together?" Raven asked with a grin. "This island isn't like most places I've seen back home, either."

[dwarvenswagger]

"I would never have guessed." Yeah, he was definitely teasing now.

[tigerundercover]

Raven absolutely had it coming. It was like teasing karma. "So tell me more about this mountain city."

[dwarvenswagger]

"Erebor," he replied happily. "It's the greatest kingdom of our age. Built into a mountain rich in precious metals and gems."

He was also a little biased.

[tigerundercover]

Well, yes. That was only natural.

"And it's all in tunnels underground? Or do you have a big cave that you built castles in?"

[dwarvenswagger]

Thorin frowned, trying to accurately describe the city. "I suppose that would be a good description. We have halls large enough to host hundreds of our kin for feasting."

"Feasting is good! Do you have a lot of holidays?"

[dwarvenswagger]

"Enough," he replied. "Or find reasons for them. They do not do that here, I have gathered."

[tigerundercover]

"Not really. We only have one or two 'feast' days back home. Everything else is finger foods and garden parties."

[dwarvenswagger]

Thorin wrinkled his nose in distaste. "Perhaps we could have a feast here."

[tigerundercover]

"In our yurt, you mean? Or just generally in Fandom? Because I could get behind either."
