Uzbekistan Yurt, Sunday Morning

It was safe to say that a dwarf that was presented with a building challenge was a motivated dwarf. That would be why Thorin was halfway through building the so called 'yurt' with only a few, ah, embellishments.

Look, he needed to make it more defensible, okay?

And maybe there were a few decorative touches added to the walls.

Just be glad he didnt feel the need to add a wall around it. Yet.

Blue had, upon realizing what the situation was, assigned herself a clear role in the yurt construction endeavor. It was called 'hand Thorin tools.'

She also had snacks for any other Uzbeks who wanted to assist (the best way to assist, she had quickly figured out, was to not get in the way and eat snacks).

"I don't think it's supposed to have semiprecious stones on it," Blue pointed out, studying the pictograms. How had that even happened? When had that happened?

It was cultural, Blue!

"The design was flawed," Thorin replied with an imperious sniff.

Raven was more than willing to sit back and watch the yurt get constructed by someone who seemed to know what he was doing. Oh yes. More than.

She had festive beverages on hand to go with Blue's snacks, at least.

"It looks lovely! You're doing an excellent job."

Maybe she could get him to build her futon, next.

"Uh-huh," Blue said, because she had learned it was best just to not argue with him by now, or else you would wake up and the dresser would be filigreed anyway. "We don't need a moat, by the way." She was just putting that out there.

Thorin opened his mouth to argue that point, but shut it with a huff. "If we are attacked, you'd wish we had a more defensible yurt."

"Thank you," Thorin replied gravely, giving her a polite little bow. See how much nicer she was being than Blue? See?

And, let's be real, all the futons would end up being built and decorated with semi-precious stones.

"Thorin, it's summer camp. It's not likely to come under attack."

In Blue's defense she was still pretty new to the island.

"Do you think Obama will get lonely in the dorms?" Yes, she knew he was a robot. He still might get lonely!

"I have not worked on the wheels to function over uneven surfaces."

His killbot would never be able to take over the world like that.

Hey, Raven was not about to tease the guy who was willing to do all the work. "Do you have a lot of experience with construction?"

Where was he getting those stones?

[dwarvenswagger]

It seemed that that mine that was always being fought over on strange weekends? Actually existed.

And it was like a dwarven sixth sense to mine for them.

"I have trained in the basics." Which was different for dwarves. "Though I am not a master of such things yet."

"Well, you're young, yet." Raven assumed. "I can't even make heads or tails of the instructions. You're like a natural."

"It is in our nature to build," Thorin replied proudly. Oh god, he was going to get such a large head. "Though my talents usually lie more in stone and metal."

"And he might try to vacuum the great outdoors and, like, explode," Blue pointed out. The things you had to worry about when you had a roomba with an axe.

"He's a dwarf," Blue explained. She paused to spoon some yogurt into her mouth, then added, "It's a cultural thing. You should see our room."

"I doubt it would explode." A beat. "Not without reason."

Thorin. Thorin, no.

[tigerundercover]

"Instead of wood and . . . what's that, leather?" It looked sort of leathery. "I think these things were designed to be portable. Though I can't picture all this on the back of a horse."

"Is it all covered in gemstones, too?" Raven asked, offering her an umbrella'd lemonade.

[yogurtvore]

"You can't kill our roomba!" Blue protested. "I love our roomba!"

[dwarvenswagger]

"It looks to be a treated hide, yes." Which was just Thorin being picky. "Perhaps they split the material between riders."

[dwarvenswagger]

"It would be a last attempt at defense," Thorin hastened to add.

[yogurtvore]

"The dividing curtain is ridiculous," Blue confirmed, taking the lemonade with a quick, "Thanks. And we have a roomba with an axe. I don't know why, but it's cute and murdery."

"I thought that was what the axe was for!"

[dwarvenswagger]

"No, that would be the primary defense." It would battle like a proper dwarf, axe in... gear.

"I suppose they'd have to. It's a little romantic, though, isn't it? Riding across the plains, your home and all your worldly goods packed to move with you. . . ."

"One of those little robot vacuum things?" Raven shook her head. "Does it just roam around bumping into things and chopping?"
