Second Floor Common Room; Friday Evening [09/01].

The need for parties and the social status assumed to go along with them was probably the easiest part of roboSummer's programming, easily the best lynch pin that connected the two Summer, that would make someone look at her eagerness to host a party and thinking yup, definitely Summer, nothing wrong here! She'd decked the place out with glitter and streamers, started pumping some sweet tunes, and made sure all the food and beverages were readily available and spread out on the table and counters.

And now all she needed was people.

...she really hoped there would be people, but, unlike OG Summer, she would definitely survive if there weren't.

Whoo, party!

Make use of the space, chat with the others, let the new kids into the social fold, talk about your classes, but there is one rule:

NO INTRODUCTIONS.

There is somehow a seemingly infinite amount of pizza, chips, and other food, a wide variety of completely moddable beverages (with many a red Solo cup to pour them into), and, of course, the pièce de résistance, a super fancy fruity jello mold centerpiece.

SP from me due to work, but how could I not?

Breq had never been a guest at a party. She had been at many, of course, as her ancillaries had been there as guards when needed, but that was different. She had been the observer, never the participant.

As no one so far had even heard about the Radchaai, she had stopped trying to pretend not to be one on her first day. That meant she was wearing Radchaai clothing, including gloves. She might not truly be one of them, but the Radchaai were the closest she would come to a people.

She took a seat on a couch, looking to see who would arrive.

Ancillaries ate skel and drank water. She had tried other things of course, and through her officers she knew of the pleasures of good food, but she hadn't actually enjoyed it herself.

Not that it was important to her, but she would probably try pizza again, even if she was going to have to wash her gloves later.

Oh! A party! Hosted by Summer, no less! Well, Peridot had a newly upgraded phone - again - to give to her, and she'd heard about the party over the radio (she didn't tend to spend much time in her room), so she was swinging by to drop it off.

And also, perhaps, to check out the new faces. Maybe there would be ones who didn't tell her to stop being green.

Like Tip was going to miss Summer's next party after the Sharkicane. She even brought some extra snacks. Parties could never have enough snacks.

"Hey, Breq," Tip greeted. "How'd your first week go?"

"Hey, Peridot." Watch out, Peridot, Tip was feeling bouncy today. "How's it going? We haven't talked in ages."

Peridot could handle bouncy! Her little sibling this semester was Sidon; Tip had a lot of work to do if she wanted to out-bouncy him.

"It's going well," Peridot replied. "I just finished upgrading Summer's phone, since her brother smashed her last one while she was back home over the break."

And through this, Peridot could determine that Summer's brother was a clod. Very important deduction, that.

"Has it been ages...?"

Peridot also had a tendency to forget that time moved somewhat differently, from a human's perspective.

"Wow. What an ass." That basically meant the same thing as clod. "And kinda? You know, from non-mineral-based perspectives. What's new?

"Good," Breq replied, making sure she offered Tip a smile. "Or so I think. I've found a job too."

In a music shop. That was probably the most exciting thing this week.

Breq nodded in the direction of Peridot, judging this to be an appropriate greeting. She remembered her from class. A green Gem was hard to forget, and she had met a lot of people in her life.

"Well..." Peridot spread her hands a little. "I learned that even when you're not pushing people from high places, the principal doesn't appreciate it if you jump from them. Not even when you've got plenty of padding down on the ground below. Oh! And I'm taking a first aid course this semester. I'm going to learn about how human bodies are put together."

That was very exciting, from the perspective of a certified Kindergartener. "... What about you?"

Peridot nodded back to Breq, remembering their conversation from class.

"So... party."

She'd been to maybe two in her life, now. She was still getting the hang of it.

"So you think you're gonna stick around then?" Tip asked.

"Yes, party."

At least Breq wasn't good at partying either. She took a sip from her fizzy drink.

"I don't know what parties here are usually like."

Peridot couldn't even enjoy the fizzy drink, so Breq had that much going for her, at least.

"In my limited experience? Loud and glittery," Peridot offered. "Sometimes there's dancing."

"Ooo, hey! Then you can patch people up if they accidentally fall off high places. Good plan." Tip smiled. "I'm taking creative writing and a class on dealing with hostile worlds. It should be a pretty good semester."

"For now," Breq said. "I needed to make some money anyway, and I like the music shop."

This was more important than school.

"And my classes could be useful. Do you like yours?"

"It's a little hard to tell the first week, but yeah. They should be cool." If nothing else, Tip had enjoyed passing notes with Paris in Creative Writing. Even if she wasn't sure how well the teacher was actually going to teach in that one. "You know, I'm not sure I've even been to the music shop around here. What's it like?"

"I'll skip the dancing," Breq said. "There's not much space anyway, although I suppose that depends on the style. What are parties like where you are from?"

If Gems had parties. But most peoples had, in one way or another.

"We," note the "we", "sell CDs, books and musical instruments. You can play them too, and there's a stage too. I don't know much about the music from this time yet, but I'm listening through the CDs."

"Hostile worlds?" Peridot looked intrigued about that one. "Like Earth?"

She had a Homeworld bias, a little.

"I wouldn't know," Peridot replied with a shrug. "Celebrations are for Gems of a much higher standing than a Peridot. But I imagine they're fairly wasteful, and probably also loud."
