4th Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

Breq had heard the voices of children this morning. It definitely wasn't the strangest thing she had experienced here, and as she was anyway spending the morning in the common room watching music videos on the TV, she decided to put some extra breakfast food on the table. If any children should show up they could help themselves. For herself, Breq made tea, and then made herself comfortable on the couch.

Music videos were an interesting combination of songs and entertainments. They were easy to watch, and a perfect combination with breakfast. Hopefully the sound wouldn't wake up any students who were trying to sleep in.

[Open! Children also welcome, of course.]

“My mom forgets and puts stuff up high a lot. I’ve gotten good at it. I bet you never have to climb on ANYTHING.”

"I never have to," Sidon chuckled again, his grin sharpening happily, "but I still climb whatever I can, because it's spectacularly fun! My favorite is climbing up waterfalls...and then diving down them!"

“Like people on TV?” He even looked like he should be on a TV show. “I’ve never seen a waterfall you can dive over. Not in real life. Not and not die, anyway.”

The joys of urban life.

"Oh, you can die with any waterfall," said Sidon, way too cheerfully for the subject matter, "so you must be careful and train hard and slowly build up with the big ones and make sure there aren't too many sharp and jagged rocks underneath. And the TV....this is the box with all the images on it, is that correct?" And he gestured to the television in the room for added benefit. "We don't have those where I'm from, but I've noticed they have many shows that feature wonderful vistas of nature and the animals who inhabit those lands, including many spectacular waterfalls, so, yes, I suppose you're right, little one, like people on TV!"

“You don’t have TV? What do you stare at when you don’t feel like moving but don’t want to sleep?”

Sidon laughed a little, because he honestly had trouble imagining himself in such a state. He knew that some people liked to lounge about, but he had never been that type.

"Why," he said, "the mountains, I suppose! And the lakes and rivers. Back home, we have the most beautiful plants in Zora's Domain as well, all colorful and bright. It can be quite calming and relaxing. Sometimes, if you climb to the top of the dam, you can see the castle far off in the distance. It was likely much more beautiful many years ago, before the Calamity overtook it, but it's still a powerful sight to behold, even with the horrible miasma choking its former glory. We also have a beautiful statue in our main courtyard, commemorating my sister Mipha."

He gave the girl a soft, longing sort of smile. "Sometimes I'll just look at that and think fondly of her memory. She was so beautiful and kind and brave, and I can sometimes feel her presence there with me, telling me everything will be okay..."

Realizing that he was getting a little heavy, which didn't seem very fair to the poor child, he brightened his smile a little more and added, "I suppose since we've never really had TV, we've never had a chance to miss it."

“I guess that makes sense. What happened to your sister?”

"She...died," Sidon said sadly, though he still tried to smile a little bit, because he felt bad for stumbling into such a heavy subject with the little one. Still, it seemed almost easier to talk to children about things like this, because they had a more simple view of the world, in his estimation, and didn't bog things down with all of their petty politics and grudges. He could hardly see a child taking a death like Mipha's and trying to use it as an excuse to hate others. He wondered what the Elders were like as children, hundred of years ago. Perhaps appealing to those hatchlings that once were might be a new tactic in swaying them...

"Defending us against the Great Calamity," he added. "She was one of the four chosen Champions of Hyrule, and I know she fought with every fiber of her being. To die in battle is one of the most honorable deaths a Zora could have, but I do miss her so."

Tip nodded sadly. "I'm sorry, that sucks," she said. "Pardon my language. She sounds like she was real cool at least."
