Roof Emo Garden, Thursday Afternoon

Keyleth hadn't made her way up to the dorm roof before today for some reason, and that was a shame since she'd clearly been missing out on the little garden she'd discovered up here, with its fascinating spiky little plants.

After the experience of having an unexpected shark crash into the simulated common room during class today, being around the plants was oddly soothing -- as was the altitude, which made her feel a little more at home. She busied herself with conjuring water to fill a bucket with which to tend to the plants, then carefully examining them and using her druidcraft to coax some of the more slowly growing buds and shoots into a healthier state.

It was a comforting way to spend an afternoon, really.

"It's usually not. Great minds think alike, I guess," Sabine said. "You're new, right?"

"Is it the new kid shine or the fact that the two has all of a hundred people total?" Trevor asked.

"A little bit of both," she admitted. "I'm Sabine."

"Trevor," he said after a moment like he considering her name first. "Any advice on how to stand out so much or am I just at the mercy of the small town?"

"You get no choice in the matter. It's small enough that you can pick out everyone you haven't seen before pretty easily," she told him. "But by the time summer session rolls around, you're the one picking the new kids out of a crowd."

"That would involve sticking around that long," he pointed out. Because he had his doubts it'd happen. Not that he wasn't, you know, sort of glad to be able to stick to one place.

And no one was trying to murder him in his sleep!

"They all say that," she said, like a true oldbie.

Who'd been here since May.

Practically a venerable elder of the school!

"No offense, but things too good to be true like this place... tend to end badly."

"I mean, you will have to deal with invasions and things," she told him. "It's a trade off for the day to day goodness."

"That's... terrifying," Sabine said slowly.

Trevor shrugged like 'what can you do?'

"Have to admit, magic chamber pots are pretty great, though."

"Magic?" she repeated. That was adorable.

He was from the 15th century! C'mon now!

"Well, I don't know where the shit goes. It's magic to me."

"What else is magic here?" Sabine wondered.

[crack_that_whip]

"Flameless torches... the shifting classroom up at the school," he said with a shrug.

"If it helps, I think the shifting classroom isn't exactly normal for this planet," she said.

"Oh, well that's good to know,"he replied dryly. All that shit was magic because he did not care to learn otherwise.

Mostly because it wouldn't help when he got back home.
