Roof Emo Garden, Thursday Afternoon

Keyleth hadn't made her way up to the dorm roof before today for some reason, and that was a shame since she'd clearly been missing out on the little garden she'd discovered up here, with its fascinating spiky little plants.

After the experience of having an unexpected shark crash into the simulated common room during class today, being around the plants was oddly soothing -- as was the altitude, which made her feel a little more at home. She busied herself with conjuring water to fill a bucket with which to tend to the plants, then carefully examining them and using her druidcraft to coax some of the more slowly growing buds and shoots into a healthier state.

It was a comforting way to spend an afternoon, really.

Sabine was mainly up here for sketching purposes, though she stopped when she got up there to watch for a moment.

"That looks helpful," she said.

Keyleth jumped a little bit. "What? Oh! I had no idea anyone was -- have you been here all this time and I didn't realize it?"

Ahem.

"Which part looked helpful?"

"Being able to do that looks helpful," she said. "I've just been here for a minute."

Keyleth seemed to relax a bit at that. "Okay. That's a lot less embarrassing than if I hadn't noticed you all along. And --" She gestured to the plants, patting one lightly with her fingertips. "I'm not really much use for a lot of things other than this, but it's nice to be able to contribute something. I really like your hair, by the way."

"Thanks. It'll change again sooner or later," she said. "You're one of the new kids, right?"

It was easy to tell in a small school.

"Hey, Sabine," Norman greeted, nodding her way as he realized that his 'go up to the nice, quiet, usually empty roof' plans were not as quiet as he'd anticipated.

Oh well. There were worse fates than having some company up here.

"Nice day to... sit on a roof, apparently?"

"I was going to be productive," she said, holding up her sketchbook. "Oops. How are you?"

"Pretty okay," Norman decided, taking a seat near the ledge. "I was... going to be kind of the opposite of productive. Maybe just sit out here and watch..." He waved a hand vaguely toward the sky. "Wildlife for a bit."

It was a very empty sky. There was maybe a seagull out there? Good job on making Norman not look completely bananas, seagull.

Sabine peered out over the ledge. "You might be able to see an alot if you look really closely..."

That was some interesting hair, but then again... his roommate had a cat head. So.

He wasn't going to judge too much.

"Didn't realize the roof was so popular."

"It's usually not. Great minds think alike, I guess," Sabine said. "You're new, right?"

"Is it the new kid shine or the fact that the two has all of a hundred people total?" Trevor asked.

"A little bit of both," she admitted. "I'm Sabine."

No classes today, no work, the folks in the graveyard weren't expecting him to visit until the weekend, and Norman mostly just wanted to just kind of hang out in quiet somewhere that wasn't his room. And so he'd made his way up to the roof, figuring he could just chill out and watch the jello dragon ghost do weird gelatinous cartwheels in the sky or something.

He hadn't really been expecting one of the new kids to be up here poking at the garden. It earned a blink and a little tilt of his head as he made his way across the roof to find a place to sit.

"Gardening, huh?"

"I didn't plan to," admitted Keyleth, who looked up and gave him a bright smile. "I wasn't really expecting there to be a garden up here, really, but when I saw it I had to, you know?"

"It's pretty," Norman replied, smiling crookedly. "I mean, gardening isn't usually my thing? But I kind of envy people who have a green thumb."

He... did not.

“I was kind of born with it, I guess,” Keyleth offered. “Ever since I was a child, nature magic’s just come really easy to me, and I know plants really well. Probably better than I know most people. So what brings you up here? The view, or were you hoping for some peace and quiet, in which case I’m really sorry?”

"The view," Norman replied. "Mostly." He looked again at the plants, and then back at the girl who had been tending to them. Yeah, she was... not entirely human, was she?

Huh.

"My view isn't quite the same as most people's. It seemed like a good day to watch for ghosts."

Hey, if she was being up-front about having magic, maybe this wouldn't be weird?

He was still braced for this to get weird.

It was new kid city up in this motherfucker. Or two new kids. Just the two. You know, so far.

Also, this kid would be deeply concerned about a jello dragon ghost, but only because he had no idea what jello was. But the rest of it sounded bad.

"Hey." So eloquent, our Trevor.

"Hey," Norman replied, nodding toward yet another new kid. Plenty of new kids all up on this roof. "Welcome to... I guess an unexpected roof party?"

This was where all the loners went to hang out.

They were alone... together. Just as long as they didn't start up a tabletop club up here---wait that was the best idea ever.

But only if they used it to traumatize a certain half-orc teacher.

"Wild parties thrown here, I see."

Trevor wasn't emo. But only because he didn't know anything about My Chemical Romance. But that was literally the only thing holding him back from living the dream.

That and not understanding the term.

"Hey," he said dully, just going for that emo lifestyle.

"Oh, hi!" Keyleth said a little too cheerfully. "We were in jail together the other day, right? In class, I mean?"

Be your best emo self, Trevor. She was like a magnet for broody guys.

"Yep," he agreed, shooting a sort of finger gun at her without knowing shit about guns. "Hopefully not going to make a habit of that."

That was fine, she didn’t know anything about guns either. Not yet, anyway.

“Me neither,” Keyleth agreed. “I’ll be just fine if I never have to do that again in my life.”
