Sixth floor common room- Sunday evening

The way Alexis was thinking, they'd have a raging party tonight, wake up tomorrow with mild hangovers, and then spend the rest of the day at the beach, because wasn't that what Memorial Day was all about?

She did not know she was expected to be in class tomorrow.

The lights were lower, there was a dance floor, the music was actually probably a little loud, and there were tables set up with all sorts of beverages. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. She also was maybe iffy on exactly what Memorial Day was commemorating, because aside from the distinct red, white and blue theme, it was very much a celebration of something or other.

Julius ~~who has kind of failed to be around this week because THIS WEEK~~ had seen the fliers around and figured that...maybe? A party in the dorms might be a lot more fun than any of the parties he'd been to before?

He ducked in, wearing his one nice shirt and looked around like he wasn't quite sure what to do next.

"Julius!" Alexis greeted him, grinning. "I am so glad you made it!"

"Hi Alexis!" Julius said, looking around. "Just decided to throw a party? Or is it, like, your birthday or something." He suddenly looked abashed. "I, uh, didn't bring a gift if it is. I'm sorry!"

"You are too sweet," she told him. "No, this is for Memorial Day! It's the official start of summer, so we're having an illicit dorm party to celebrate."

This wasn't really illicit, but okay.

"Memorial Day?" Julius asked.

Look, it wasn't one of the big holidays or the materialistic ones, so his mother didn't care about it.

"Is that the one with the trees?" he paused and then shook his head. "No, that's Arbor Day, I think..."

"Nooo, I think it maybe memorializes the passing of winter in America."

ALEXIS NO. WHAT.

"But really it's the start of summer. I'm sure it's all fun from here on out."

"I bet summers out here are nicer than back home, too," Julius said, never having dealt with humidity in his life. "It gets super hot in New Mexico."

"I bet. I went to a sweat lodge thing once out there and it was ridiculous," she said. "What's your favorite thing to do in the summer?"

Because she could make it happen, and to do so she needed to take notes.

"Oh uhh." Julius looked first nervous and then embarrassed. He couldn't say 'flying,' which was the truth, but his next favorite activity was playing full-immersion MMOs and even he knew that was the nerdiest question he could give. "Uhh, up until our--my seventeenth birthday--" Because humans didn't give birth in clutches, right "--summers weren't much different than any other time. Just, you know. Training and lessons and stuff. So, uh, hard to say."

"So what you're saying is you'd be totally open to trying some new things over the summer to find a favorite?"

Okay, Alexis, sure.

"Yeah, actually," Julius said, happy to grab onto anything that turned the conversation away from him and his family. "Why, what do you like?"

"Oh, so many things! I like having cute little yacht parties, and traveling, and long romantic walks on the beach..." Way to slip that in there. "Really, anything on the beach. And festivals, and outdoor adventures when it's not too hot, and rooftop parties at sunset..."

"I've never been to the beach," Julius admitted. "Landlocked state and all. Same with yachts or pretty much any of that." He grinned at her. "Guess I'm going to have to look to you for guidance for this whole summer thing, huh?"

"I think it would be in your best interest," she nodded.

"I'm guessing Memorial Day parties are a good start, huh?" Julius asked, looking around. "I know I wouldn't have thought to throw one."

What with not remembering the holiday existed and all.

"I don't think anyone did," Alexis admitted. "I had to take the reigns to throw something together last night, but I think it turned out pretty well. Next time there'll be actual planning."

"What would, like, actual planning entail?" he asked.

He was used to Bethesda's glittering soirees, but he was pretty sure Alexis wasn't going to try for anything that elaborate.

"A bonfire on the beach with fairy lights and maybe a cabana or two," she said.

"Okay," Julius said with another laugh. "That is pretty awesome. I guess I know what to expect for the 4th, huh?"

"Maybe," she said, mysteriously, "or maybe I'll keep everybody on their toes."

"I'm pretty sure that's not hard," Julius said. "You just seem so much more...worldly, I guess. Than anyone else I've met."

Including all the people from other worlds.

"You just have this air of 'done it all, seen it all' and the rest of us are just like, 'Oh this is my first time away from home,'" he added with a self-conscious laugh. "Except for Tahani, I guess."

There was a little pained look for about a split second at the mention of Tahani, she who kept conveniently finding reasons not to move out even though she decided she would, but Alexis glossed right over it.

"There's plenty I haven't done yet," she said. "I do like sounding worldly, though."

"Okay, okay what's one thing you haven't done yet?" Julius asked, wearing a little half-smile.

Alexis squinted one eye as she considered it.

"Skydiving?"

"Oh you should though," Julius said. "Falling through the air is amazing."
