Moving Day (again!) - Second floor hallway

After her omgsoconfusing morning, Rory started to patiently move boxes of her things down the hall from room 236 to 213.

She is but one wee, clumsy, fairly weak girl though, so she would certainly appreciate any help offered.

Unless it's offered by John or Lee, because they are OMG SO DEAD.

"Just checking." Anakin looked around. "I can move the bunk down, if you'd like. Let Vladdie sleep next to you in a double bed-type thing?"

Rory actually considered this.

Of course, she blushed.

But she thought seriously, in spite of all her blood rushing to her face.

"Do you think a double bed would actually fit in here?"

Anakin looked around the room, partially to break eye contact with Rory.

"If we moved desk next to the bureau against that wall, then yeah, it should work. It'll be a little cramped, though."

Rory tapped a finger to her chin.

"It should work, yeah. And that'll be handy. Since I tend to flail a lot in my sleep, and a double bed would be nice."

She didn't mention that she'd had a twin bed her entire life. That really didn't seem to be relevant.

"Got it," Anakin said, rolling up his sleeves. He closed his eyes and held out his hand. The desk rose a few inches off the floor and floated across the room, landing softly next to the bureau.

He opened his eyes. "Like that?"

Rory smiled at him.

"You don't have to do that. I can move stuff myself."

"Good. You can move the bed."

Anakin grinned.

Rory frowned, and went over and kicked the door shut. Because no one else needed to see this.

She studied the bed, and began to try to unhinge it from the wall.

It went about as well as could be expected, for a girl whose experience with this sort of thing could be summed up by recalling the time her mother had covered a hammer in pink glitter and feathers.

Rory gave a sharp tug, and nearly toppled over.

Anakin stepped right behind her, steadying her. "I didn't really mean that you actually had to do it by yourself," he said quickly. "Let me help?"

"I'm a big girl," Rory said stubbornly, surveying the bed and trying to figure out the mechanics of how her tiny, frail little self could move it.

"Never said you were," Anakin said. "But the bed is tall and heavy. It's a two person project. Let me help?"

"'Kay," Rory agreed, letting go of the bed. "How are we going to do this, then?"

Anakin gauged the situation. "Okay. You go undo the other parts that are keeping the bed up while I keep it steady. Then we can push it up and off."

Rory crouched on the lower bunk after retrieving a screwdriver from a box. She tried to remember why she actually had it. She decided it didn't matter, and began to unscrew the top hinges.

"Pff. And Sam makes it seem like this fix-it kind of stuff is hard," Rory scoffed.

Anakin smiled, pleased to see Rory being so handy. He steadied the bed with his hands and a quick tug of the Force.

Rory held up a handful of screws. "I think that's it. Ready to try to move the whole thing?"

"Sure," Anakin replied. "Count of three, lift up, okay? One, two...three."

Anakin lifted his side of the bed fairly easily, reaching into the Force to keep the bed steady and slightly lighter on Rory's end.

It was cheating, but it was a little cheat.

"Whoa, it's really light," Rory said, confused. "Or else I'm really strong." She grinned. "Or else you're doing something to make it easier on me."

Anakin gave her a small smile. "Maybe a little?" he admitted.

Rory sighed and tried to look very put-upon.

"I guess it's all right if you try to make things easier on me," she smiled as she lowered her end without effort.

"Just a little bit," Anakin repeated. "Because you're a big girl and fully able to move furniture."

He set his end of the bed down on the ground with a bit of a thump. "There. Now Vladdie won't get too lonely."

He winced. Wow, was that a stupid thing to say.

Rory blushed.

"Yes. Because a lonely vampire puppy is a sad, sad thing."

Anakin quirked up an eyebrow. He wasn't sure if he was being referred to as a vampire puppy, but he was willing to go with it.

"Exactly," he said, nodding. "We'd hate for him to be all lonely and stuff."

"And cold!" Rory supplied. "He could get very cold."

She didn't add that it's not like Vladdie is really big on being affected by temperature.

Anakin nodded a little too emphatically. "Very cold."
