Animal-Balancing Contest (evening, FHT - first floor lobby)

Rory arrived in the lobby balancing a tank with a wee turtle in it against one hip, a box from J,GOB in the opposite arm, and a flying puppy on a leash leading her.

She tied Vladdie to the leg of a table, set Yoda's tank and the cake down, and looked around to see what she still needed to set up.

[~~Yes, even crack-addled ideas like this need OCD threads. Wait for 'em.~~ They're up, but play on the contest itself won't start until 5:30 EST.

ETA: And yes, it originally said it was in the afternoon. This is now set about 8:30 PM FHT.

Bridge grins at Xander. "Cake!" he says, handing him some.

"It's my fake birthday today, apparently."

"Cake!" Xander accepts the cake gratefully, because yo, CAKE.

"So how does that work? You just felt like having a birthday, and thus, cake? I ask only because frankly that sounds like a spiffy idea and I'm kinda sorry I didn't think of it first."

"Well, the birthday thing was Rory's doing, actually." Bridge says with a shrug.

"Wait... did we miss your birthday too?" Bridge asks.

Xander waves a fork-and-cake-filled hand. "Eh - it was right after Thanksgiving; everybody was just getting back from break. I'm pretty used to it getting eaten by the holidays." ~~Also back then it was in September; yay retcon based on new almost-canon information.~~

"Well," Bridge says, "I could share my fake birthday with you, then. If you wanted."

"That's very generous of you." Xander enjoys some more fake birthday cake, which is not actually fake cake, but is in fact rather tasty cake. "So how fake old does this make you?" If there were candles to count before, there aren't now.

"Sixteen. Or one. Both, actually." Bridge answers with a shrug.

Xander scratches one ear. "Is that real years and fake years?"

"Well," Bridge says. "I was born in 2004, but I came here from the year 2020. So *I* turned sixteen, and the baby-me turned one."

Xander's going to forget how to blink one of these days, considering how little he does it anymore. "Huh. Yeah, yay time. Come to think of it, there's two of me, too - I'd be turning nineteen, but it's 2000 back home. There's an older verson of me around here somewhere who may or may not be losing his keys in Zimbabwe, and he's about... great, math. Twenty-five?"

"We should start a club. A club for the temporally displaced who currently co-exist with future or past versions of themselves."

He thinks about this for a few seconds.

"It would probably not get a wide membership."

"Quality, not quantity, right?" Xander frowns. "Granted your one year old self might not have a lot to say at the meetings. But we could always read him stories or something."

Bridge laughs. "There is that."

And then, because thinking about this topic too much kind of breaks his brain a little, he changes the topic.

"Ever been up to the sixth floor?"

Xander has a thing about people deconstructing his segues, so all Bridge gets for the sudden jump is a raised eyebrow. And then a half wince. "Well, I've been to the common room."

"Ooh, right," Bridge says. "Glitter."

"Um, I meant, like, the dorm rooms. There's a bunch of empty ones that are like, really weird inside."

The appropriate response of any self-respecting smartass to that single sparkly word would be 'you said a mouthful,' and yet, Xander does not make it. Go figure.

Instead he shakes his head. "Nope, haven't seen any of the regular rooms up there. Jaye said something about weird ones, but Jaye's kind of on the good drugs sometimes, so I wasn't sure how seriously to take her."

"Well, I wouldn't call them 'regular' rooms, exactly. There's one with no gravity. And one that's upside down and outside at the same time. And one where everything is in, like, giant proportions."

Okay, now Xander blinks. "Um, everything? Or just what was already in there to begin with? Because that would be an interesting room. You could probably sell tickets."

Bridge's eyes go wide. "Um. No, just what was there to begin with. Like the table and chairs and the bed and stuff. Really. Um."

"I guess if it worked on people who went into the room, you'd never know there was anything weird about it, come to think of it. Because you'd all be the same size as the giant stuff and it wouldn't look giant." Xander tilts his head. "Splain' me the one about upside down and outside? I get upside down, and I get outside, but how do you manage both without... flying off into space or something?"

"You know, I'm really not sure. But we were like, standing on clouds and stuff, and we looked up and could see the school. You should totally come see it sometime!" he suggests. "It's really cool!"

"Who's we? Is there an Exploring the 6th Floor Club or something?" Xander asks.

"Not a club so much as a group of people. I mean, it's not even always the *same* people- but um, Molly, Cordy, Hamlet, Sam, Rory, Archie- they're usually there whenever we decide to go exploring."

"Interestingly randominated mix, not counting Rory. Oh, and Hamlet lives up there, right?" Xander grins thoughtfully. "Does sound kind of fun, anyhow. This place could do with a few more Adventures in Big Furniture Land as opposed to say, Crazy Killer Robot Land."
