Animal-Balancing Contest (evening, FHT - first floor lobby)

Rory arrived in the lobby balancing a tank with a wee turtle in it against one hip, a box from J,GOB in the opposite arm, and a flying puppy on a leash leading her.

She tied Vladdie to the leg of a table, set Yoda's tank and the cake down, and looked around to see what she still needed to set up.

[~~Yes, even crack-addled ideas like this need OCD threads. Wait for 'em.~~ They're up, but play on the contest itself won't start until 5:30 EST.

ETA: And yes, it originally said it was in the afternoon. This is now set about 8:30 PM FHT.

"I do not know what you're talking about, stranger," 'Herb' said. "I am here to watch the animal balancing. That is all."

"Your roommate has finally gotten to you, hasn't he," Parker said flatly. "The Crichton insanity has crept across the room and dripped into your ears and convinced you that the Emperor is wearing new clothes, if you cover your eyes no one can see you, and yes, you *are* Herb Saunders and no one will call you on it. You doofus." Poke-poke-poke. "Sit down, at least!"

"I'm not tired!" 'Herb' said. Though he did look it, just a little. He kept his eye on the contest though. "Besides, I want to watch my boy Steve in action."

"Sit down, or I trip you." She looked over at 'Steve' on Callisto's head, and facepalmed. "Oh, that's just wrong."

"Awh, he'll be so disappointed. He warmed up and everything!" 'Herb' perched on the arm of a couch so he could be high enough to see, yet still sitting. If he was Angel, which he wasn't, he might've looked like sitting was a good idea for him.

"He'll live. And he knows you wouldn't miss this. Although you should be." Parker kept a close eye on 'Herb', then said, "And your accomplices are so hearing from me about this, Saunders."

"I have no accomplices, strange lady," 'Herb' said. "I act alone. Like the wolf. Though less hairy in the back region."

"Herb, so nice to see you again," said Janet, coming to stand next to him.

"You as well, person who I have never met before this eve," 'Herb' said. If it looked like he adjusted his hat to pull it down over his eyes, which were showing signs of fatigue, that was sheer coincidence, really.

"I've got a penlight, and I know how to use it," murmured Janet. "So, Herb," she said, in a more normal tone of voice. "How are you feeling?"

"Oh, you know me," 'Herb' said, scooting in the opposite direction about an inch. "Can't complain."

"He's tired. And he's not fighting me as much as usual. Sic 'em, Janet."

"Well, yes, I do know you, don't I?" Janet asked 'Herb.' She smiled and made a note of just how far away he'd scooted.

"I could take one arm, and you could take the other, and we could march him back to his room," said Janet. "I'm sure Callisto could bring Sean back after the contest."

"Ladies, ladies," 'Herb' said. "There is no need for this sort of - Hey, what's that over there?!"

Janet smiled at 'Herb.' "Probably flesh-eating zombies come to pull the brains out of our skulls and eat them," she said. "This is Fandom, after all. Come on, let's get you back to your room."

"Not even five more minutes?" he asked, though eagle-eyes would notice that his hands were starting to shake.

"Not even five more seconds, Saunders. I got the left, Fraiser. C'mon, Herb. Make it march."

Janet shook her head as she eyed his hands. "Not even five more minutes. Sorry, 'Herb,' but you need your rest." She gestured. "Up. And you can escort a lady back to her room." She held out her arm for 'Herb' to take.

'Herb' did as he was told. It was possible he was bracing himself against Janet more than a totally healthy person would need to.

Parker had his other arm, and was *not* digging her fingernails in. Even though he deserved it.

Janet might have somehow managed to make it look like she wasn't supporting anyone's extra weight while she was taking as much as she could. Almost like she'd had practice at it.

They got to Angel's room without too much incident, and Janet stood to the side as he opened the door. "Straight to bed," she warned him.

"Oh all right," Angel said, finally taking the hat off. Now that he was in his room again, he looked far more tired than he'd let on. "Thanks guys."

"Any time, Angel," said Janet, giving his arm a quick squeeze. "Good night."

"Sleep!" Parker pointed at him, but she smiled.
