The Pool Saturday Afternoon

Paige was still trying to get over the topless photo of 'English' Peter apparently she had a knack for missing all the fun.

Having worked out that sitting in her room trying to work out if there was a spell to go back in time and exactly how much personal gain it would involve if there was, was not a good idea she headed to the pool.

She turned her head back and continued to swim towards the side, "oh okay," she said slowing a little and deciding that she really needed to start going to the gym seeing as she didn't really have any classes over the summer and she was clearly out of shape.

Peter picked up his stroke again and closed some of the gap with Paige. Looking up, he said "No race then? Let's just swim."

Paige was a little breathless now, "we could just call it a tie," she suggested smiling as she slowed even more, "I've been so busy studying ~~and nearly dying~~ I've not really had much chance to do much else," she said hoping that would explain the breathlessness. "plus I've never actually been much of a swimmer."

"Without a doubt, a tie it is." Peter matched his stroke to hers as they reached the side of the pool. "From everything I've heard, this past school year hasn't been exactly normal or uneventful. Hopefully the summer will be a bit more relaxed." He grinned at the swimming comment and spoke lightly, "I empathize with that. My younger sister can beat me anytime swimming. It can be a crush to one's dignity. Not that she wouldn't think it needed crushing most of the time."

"well there's certainly gonna be less school work at least, which was my main issue." she told him just letting herself float for a while, "as for your dignity, well seem to have quite a lot from what I've seen, well apart from..." she shut her mouth quickly to stop herself from saying more, while the whole blushing thing was cute and endearing she didn't really want to cause it if she could help it.

Peter raised a mental eyebrow at her cut off phrase and let it pass without a comment. "The problem, or so I'm told, is that I have too much. Your sisters are older, right? You understand the impulse to cut them down to size," Peter commented as he continued to tread water.

"ah, well I'm sure this place'll see to that, it's hard to keep your dignity when you've been bitten by a gremlin causing you to run around in a leather basque," she said not mentioned that the person this has happened to was male.

"Yeah I'm the youngest of four, but like I said I've only known them a few months and I don't really have much of a leg to stand on where cutting them down to size is concerned, they don't seem to screw up half as much as I do. Still being the youngest that's pretty much my job isn't it?"

"Gremlin?" Peter raised an eyebrow inviting explanation.

He grinned at her comment about being the youngest. "Definitely, it is. Trust me when I say older siblings can get out of sorts when they don't get to rescue their sibs from scrapes - major or minor - on a regular basis. It's written into our brains or something."

"little green creatures, sharp teeth, about so high," she said holding her hands about a foot apart, "I'm pretty sure they're gone though so you shouldn't have to worry too much."

"I think we take it turns with the rescuing, but yeah they are both pretty over protective." she bit her lip and looked up at him, "Piper wants to meet you actually," she said quietly hoping it wasn't too soon to say this, while panicking that it was.

"Not worried precisely, but it's always good to know the terrain before engaging the enemy."

One may not think it possible to be able to bow while swimming, but Peter certainly appeared to bow in response to Paige's statement. "Certainly it would be an honor to meet any of your sisters," Peter said smoothly.

Paige is certainly impressed by the underwater bow, because she figured if there was ever a time you could relax you manners it would be in a pool.

She tilted her head and smiled, "I'll find out when she's free, although I'm starting to worry I'm laying claim to all your free time. You can always say no you know, I'll not be offended."

Paranoid, Paige? Never!

If Peter knew Paige's thoughts, he would tell her that manners weren't something one relaxes.

Peter looked slightly puzzled and then smiled, "I am more than happy both to speak to your roommate and sister. It's what one does for friends, you know. I would hope that you consider me a friend."

There's a moment when Paige hears the word 'friend' and inwardly deflates. Maybe she should give up now, although in fairness that really isn't her style at all, maybe she should just kiss him? NO cos that could go all sorts of wrong.

It's entirely possibly Peter notices the silence as she has this little inner discussion with herself before finally speaking. "Friends, yeah of course I do." Cool Paige, real cool

Peter did notice the silence and was a bit confused by its source. He ended up attributing it to something from her past. Perhaps he had unconsciously evoked something she'd prefer not to talk about at the present.

He lamely changed the subject as they started a new lap. "Have you signed up for your summer workshops?"

Wow he really was clueless wasn't he? This could be interesting.

She nodded swimming slowly by his side, "yeah I choose on the first day we could, althought there was so much to chose from it was a but hard, I'm taking astronomy, who about you?"

And yes she did choose two, but she's not about to mention the other choice unless he asks straight out because it would give him the ~~right~~ wrong idea about her. ~~he should totally ask though just cos the mun likes torturing her pup~~

"Just astronomy? I would have thought you'd perhaps have chosen your sister's course or maybe the magic one as well." Peter didn't like to ask directly, but he hoped she wouldn't be offended if he encouraged further information.

"I chose Leadership/Tactics and Flying. I heard nothing but good things about Professor Harrington, and I always wanted to learn how to fly. Join the RAF and all that, you know." He realised after saying it that she probably wouldn't know the thrill of the finest few defending their country..

"Like I said there was too much to chose from and I'm sure Piper'll teach me to cook anyway if I ask her and I have my Grams to teach me about magic and um there was another course that sounded interesting, the um the sex course" she said the last part very very quietly hoping he wouldn't hear her.

"Sounds like the stuff you're taking'll be handy though,"

"I'm sorry?"

He was going to make her say it again? That was just mean.

"the sex course" she repeats a little more loudly wondering if drowning herself was a viable option at this point, but then he'd probably save her, maybe she'd get a kiss out of it?

((and again it's that time of the evening when I must flee, wrap up tomorrow? Night!))

Peter may have blushed. A lot. "I'm sure that will be very educational," he said, politely. And wished the water was cooler to keep the blush from spreading down his chest. He'd read the option. He just hadn't allowed himself to think about it.

See now this would be why she had't mentioned it, plus she realy didn't want him to thinking of her like that, maybe she shouldn't have choosen that course in the first place, arts and crafts was probably interesting too.

"Um yeah, I thought it might be interesting," she replied unaware that this might actually make matters worse, "I thought it might be like the course I took last semester, it was about the theory, you know laws and stuff." stop talking stop talking now!

Peter? Isn't really thinking so much right now as concentrating on not thinking. He might even have been slightly babbling.

"What course was that you were taking last semester? Fandom offers so many interesting ones. I wish my old school would have done that. But no, latin, history, sports, maths all the time."

"Sex cultures, it was one of the sociology courses, I liked the teacher, and well I didn't really want to take the violence course and it um finished early so I thought if I took the workshop being offered I'd get like the full course." yeah that's a total rambly lie, but the girl's pretty much dying here.

"Sounds like a sound plan," Peter said. He smiled at Paige and, at a loss for words, flipped over on his back and started to float. If someone had an impulse to dunk him for being a brat, that someone would probably succeed.
