Meerkat Campfire, evening

The cabin is back, or visible at least since it never really went anywhere. She survived cheerleading practice without injury and the rain seems to have stopped. All in all, not a bad day. Now it's time to sit back, relax and enjoy the last campfire and the last s'more for a while.

"So we corner the market on pies, then set up a limited company for the moving venture. Corner the market." Parker snickered. "It could work. If we could find the movers again. How did they get onto you guys in the first place? Any idea?"

Tyler jabbed his marshmallow stick in Isabel's direction, and past her to the Meerkat cabin. "It had to do with those lovely ladies. They were reading supernatural books and giggling a lot in the library on Monday."

"Ohhh, is that how it was accomplished?I thought they just left out bait, or something." Parker's looking more amused than condemning. "I may have to go look that up. Just for curiosity's sake."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if there was bait or a spell or what," Tyler shrugged. "I can show you the section they were in. I don't know what book."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
"It would take too long, then," Parker said, waving it off. "I used to have that job. Are you going to be a Library Aide for the summer, or stay on indefinitely?"

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"It's up to Principal Washburn," Tyler shrugged. "For now, just for the summer."

He looked speculatively at Parker. "So what's the deal with Special Collections? Rory just told me to stay away."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Rory was looking out for you." Parker made a face, and chewed a marshmellow while she tried to think of how to explain, then swallowed. "There's two problems. One, lots of the books in there are dangerous just to breathe around. They're poisonous, or they'll turn you into salamanders, or disappear you to somewhere else. That's half the problem."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Tyler nodded slowly. "What's the other half?"

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Parker looked disturbed. "We're pretty sure it's alive. Or something." She shivered. "And it's bigger inside, than it should be, from the outside."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Tyler went pale. "Okay. So, basically, I'll be much happier if I stay away from the place."

Not that Tyler worried that much about being happy.

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes." Parker nodded fervently. "We lost one teacher in there, Professor Gandalf. No idea where he went. And there's a dragon. You might have to go in as part of your job, but it's usually okay if you've got a good reason to be there. It might not let you out until you shelve some books, but otherwise... yeah. It's better avoided."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
"There's a dragon. Okay."

Tyler stared at Parker. "Sure there isn't something wrong with the air in there? Something causing hallucinations, maybe?"

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"No. I'm sure there could be." Parker shrugged. "But if there is? It can give five people a simultaneous creepy monk hallucination, complete with disappearing floor." She raised her eyebrows. "At which point, I don't think it matters if it's live or Memorex. You're still in trouble."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"It's just a question of the kind of trouble," Tyler agreed. "I'll only go int here if I absolutely have to. And even then, I'll be all stealthy. Library won't even notice me."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Parker grinned. "Good call. You could bribe it, too. I don't know *how* alive it was, but Zero said it liked coffee vibes. And efficiencey. And snark."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Tyler mulled this over. "I like coffee," he said. "Insomniacs usually do."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Parker quirked a smile. "You'll get by. Librarians and professors we've lost, but not one aide yet. Just don't sign anything you find laying around. Even if it looks like a library card application."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"That's what happened to that girl the library talked to, right?" Tyler asked. "No way. It sounds like it'll be overwhelming enough if it doesn't talk to me."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Zero? Yeah, she danced off with a song in her heart and her mallet over her shoulder when the contract was up. I don't think it could really work twice, but you never know." Parker looked apologetic. "The rest of the library is fine, and most of the time it's a fun job-- SC just keeps it from being non-Fandom in its normality, really."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm beginning to get that normality is the unusual thing here," Tyler said slowly. "Glad to hear the library is holding up its end of the bargain."
