Meerkat Campfire, evening

The cabin is back, or visible at least since it never really went anywhere. She survived cheerleading practice without injury and the rain seems to have stopped. All in all, not a bad day. Now it's time to sit back, relax and enjoy the last campfire and the last s'more for a while.

"See, a rubber herring would just be silly," Tyletr said firmly. "Maybe a rubber shark. That would be very menacing."

"Oh certainly," Peter said, deadpan. "Because if you were waving a rubber shark at me, I would be terrified. I wouldn't know what to do. I'd have to call a girl to help save me."

"Well, of course. Because only girls can defeat rubber animals."

Tyler nodded as if this made perfect sense.

"It's one of their god-given talents," Peter replied. "Right up there with making everything fit into a suitcase."

"They can do that?" Tyler asked. He sighed. "That's it. I need a girlfriend. Or possibly a maid."

"Maids can be useful," Peter agreed. "Right up until they start rummaging through your things to 'clean' everything."

"I've never had a maid for real," Tyler admitted. "They're nosy?"

He thought. "Mght be worth it not to have to deal with stuff. Or you can just ignore dirt until it starts talking. I always liked that plan."

"Usually only in the best-intentioned ways," Peter said. "'Oh, he couldn't possibly want that shirt anymore, it's full of holes.' That type of thing."

"And around here? I have a feeling that could happen sooner than elsewhere."

Tyler looked stricken. "Especially now that I've said it."

He sighed. "I should stock up on the clorox and sponges for my dorm room, huh?"

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-04 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Peter considered. "I don't know, once the dirt starts talking, wouldn't it be wrong to kill it?"

"You have me thinking about the morality of cleaning," Tyler said.

And sighed. "Yeah, I guess if it's talking, you need to let it be, maybe even move."

"Sorry," Peter said, not sounding very at all. "We could go back to talking about the rubber shark you're going to wield next time we fence?"

Tyler grinned. "See, this is he kind of scintillating conversaiton I came to this camp for."

He flopped onto his back and stared into the stars. "I'm going to miss the cabin. Weird."

"Glad I could oblige," Peter said with a laugh.

He looked into the fire, "me too. It's been a good two weeks."
