After the game, the second floor common room could be found bedecked with gold and blue streamers and a banner hanging on one wall that said "GO GREMLINS" in large letters.

There were also set up tables with food and drink ~~so handwavily~~ set up by the cheerleaders and a stereo playing the cheerleaders' practice music mix at an acceptable volume.

It was a victory party! No matter who won.

"Thank you for being cheered for!" she raised her can of Coke, which she totally got herself, to him in return.

Peter grinned. "I would have even gotten you a Coke today. But you girls looked great."

"... So if I didn't look great you would'uv got me a Coke?"

"You didn't hear the period?" Peter asked, laughing. "Because I very definitely inserted a period between those two statements. Thus, separate and unrelated thoughts."

"Ya well," she said taking a sip. "You Brits. Always dropping your H's and your periods."

"My aitches?" Peter said with horror. "I most certainly do not drop my aitches!"

"Hmmm hmmm." she said taking another sip and then grinning.

"Hurricanes hardly happen in Hartford, Hereford, and Hampshire," Peter said. "See?"

"Your elloqution teacher must be very proud." she grinned.

Peter laughed. "You're horrible. You don't that, don't you?"

"Yes." she said sweetly.

"As long as you're aware," Peter said with a grin. "So, Tuesday, 3pm, the Common Room and a national battle?"

"Oh I wouldn't miss it for the world... We need to shut you all down for a 38th time Beckham or no!"

"You can try," Peter said. "But England still won the Group. Two goals in the last ten minutes the other day? I think we'll be fine."

"Ya." she replied, "You keep telling yourself that my Limey friend. And maybe someday? It'll even be true."

*sip*

"But not this year."

"First you call me a cockney and now a Limey!" Peter said. "There need to be some good Swedish insults to throw down. And yes, this year."

"Well you've had 38 years to figure one out and all you've come up with is 'Those people who keep trouncing us'!" she said. "And funny, but I'm not insulted by that... And if you're so sure perhaps you'd like to wager on it then?"

"I've not had 38 years," Peter pointed out. "For me, those years barely exist. So using that argument? Not really the way to go. But certainly, a wager then. You're the pirate, you name the stakes."

"Hmmm..." she thought for a moment. "Looser wears the winner's flag for the whole of the next day. Just the flag... And a smile."

"I don't think that would be appropriate for school," Peter said. "The flag and one's regular clothes. I'd think wearing the flag of the victor would be humiliation enough."

"Oh okay." she said with mock disgust. It may or may not be obvious that she just added the last bit to make the wearing the flag thing more acceptable.

Shrewd one that Pippi.

"I hope you like the Union Jack," Peter grinned. "You'll be seeing a lot of it next week."

He held out his hand to shake on the bet.

"We already know Blue is your color." she said shaking his hand (gently). "I'm sure the yellow won't make you look very jaundiced."

"I'm sure it won't be a problem," Peter said with a wink.

"I'm glad you're ready to accept your fate."
