Peter eyed the cat carefully. "Perhaps you ought to give it some fish or something? To call truce?"

Merdebaise eyed Peter back, daring him to make the first move.

"I dunno. I think that's how I got into this mess in the first place, giving him food."

"True, but perhaps he just wishes a vacation before heading back out to the wilds?" Peter shook his head, still watching the cat. He almost expected the animal to talk.

Merdebaise started to lick it's paw, coming to the conclusion that Peter wasn't even worth her attention.


"Always possible," Pip said. "And it's a she, according to Pippi."

A bit relieved that the cat was doing such a catlike thing and did not seem to be on the verge of talking any longer, Peter grinned. "And now her name's even more inappropriate."
