Pippi had intended to make breakfast this morning, but she slept in and had cheer practice.

"That's just it. When they're given clothes, it means they're free," she says. "You can't just tell them they're free. They need to have it given to them."

"Rather makes them your responsibility afterwards, hmm?" Peter said. "Do you have a plan for their well-being after they've been given freedom? People - and elves, I assume - usually need help re-adjusting." Peter spoke with the weight of experience at that.

"Well, I've found so far that the house elves that have been freed tend to go back to work serving people," she admits. "But at least they earn wages, and even days off."

"Have you considered setting up a school for them?" Peter suggested. "So that they might learn a new trade if they don't wish to go back into service?"

The wheels turning in Hermione's head might be visible. "It's nothing I can do while I'm still in school, but perhaps afterwards..."

"It's something to consider in any case," Peter said. "I mean, if they have no other options than being in service, they're that much more likely to be enslaved again. Unless you can manage to change your society away from the acceptance of it."

Peter blushed. "Apologies, I don't mean to pontificate on it."

"No, no, this is good," she says excitedly. "It's actually a help. Thank you."

"Glad to be of service then," Peter replied with a grin. "I'd say something about how we Brits should stick together, but there are really so many of us here, that somethings I think the Yanks ought to stick together instead."
