The roof, Wednesday evening

Nadia lay on the edge of the roof on a towel with one of the books from the library open in front of her. She knew from her conversation with Alfred that she wasn't likely to find any details about Walter's mission itself in the books, but at least she could get an idea of the area he was getting into. And maybe a better idea of where he came from, in general.

The ideas she was getting weren't pretty. But then, she'd learned early on that a lot of things in life weren't.

Distractions would, of course, be entirely welcome.

"I don't mind messy. As long as it can be washed off later." Nadia put her book into her backpack and came over. "Just tell me what to do, I'm at your service."

"Well then," Cally said, pulling out a wrench from her toolbelt. "It'd probably be best to start with the back engine. So we're going to need to take out the failsafes to start stripping out the fuel lines."

"Fail safes. Fuel lines. Gotcha." Yeah, Nadia had no idea what she was talking about. But taking things apart sounded like fun.

Cally gestured to the underside of the Viper. "We're going to have to slide underneath it, so..." She actually had a couple of those mechanicky roller board things handy. "Get as comfortable as you can."

Nadia lay down and fidgeted about a bit until she was generally comfortable. She gave an experimental kick or two and glided back and forth.

This thing was officially cool. "I have my leatherman, but I don't have any other tools. Do you have any extras?"

"Feel free to grab whatever you need from my belt," Cally said. "Ask and you shall recieve." She rolled under and pointed to a panel. "This is the first thing we have to get off."

Nadia borrowed a wrench and looked at the panel.

Normally she'd just force the thing open with a pry bar or something, but she got the feeling that was not quite what was warranted here. They wanted to be able to put it back on later, after all.

So instead she started fooling with one of the bolts, taking a minute or so to figure out how to adjust the wrench and which way to turn the bolt.

"How long have you been working on this thing?"

"Ummm... well, the problem arose that I didn't work on it for a couple months?" Cally said. "Before that, it was about a month putting it together. From all the proper parts, though. Not scratch built."

"That's still really neat, though. I could never do something like this. Did you put it together by yourself?" Nadia got the first bolt off, then moved on to another, this time able to work much faster since she kinda sorta had an idea of what she was doing.

Cally started helping Nadia with the bolts. "Bridge, Doctor Grissom, and Anders all helped at times," she said. "Mostly Bridge, though. He's the one who finally got it to seem to run. But then it sat all winter and... no juice."

"Ahhh. It probably works better if you get it running from time to time instead of sitting, huh."

"Especially with the whole snow and cold and thaw stuff," Cally said. "Thing might be rusted solid inside, for all I know." Cally took off the last bolt and grabbed the panel and gave it a tug. And it didn't budge. "Or the outside, for that matter."

Oooo, maybe they would get to pry it off. Nadia pulled out her leatherman and started working on of the smaller, less used blades under the panel.

She liked destruction. She was pretty good at it.

"Well, at least it keeps you busy, right?"

"Yeah, now, at least," Cally said. "Didn't even think about the frakking thing 'til... well, yeah..."

"Understood." Nadia didn't persue that subject any further. They might be two lonely-ish girls working on a viper, but that didn't mean they had to think about that. "So, did you sign up for workshops, yet?"

"Are you going to paint the underside now?"

"Sadly, no," Cally said. "Something broke, and it won't run again. Not that it's even had a test flight yet, but yeah. It's now just a brightly colored stature, at the moment."

"Very," Cally said. "But, oh, hi Pippi!" Cally waved. "How ya doing?"

"Hi Cally, I'm doing good!"

"Good," Cally said. "Have you gotten a chance to test out the motor yet?"

"I gave it a whorl when I installed it, but I haven't taken it out for a serious trip yet. Worked great though!"

"Good," Cally said. "A lot of work went into that."

"It's brilliant!" she said. "So how've you been besides having a sucky flying thing?"

"Doing pretty well," Cally said. "Friends are being super nice, and Anders and I are on the road to bein' friends again, which is good."
