Gym, Saturday night

Even silent, Tyler seemed especially confident as he waited for people to show up in the gym. He was barefoot, and clad in a tank top and sweats.

As people came in, he handed them sheets of paper with "Fight Club Rules" scrawled at the top.

1. What happens here, stays here.
2. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR PARTNER. Match is over when someone signs "stop."
3. Only two to a fight.
4. One fight at a time.
5. No shoes. Padding only if you need it.
6. Fights go on as long as they have to. Someone's bleeding too much or knocked out? Fight's over.
7. Play nice, boys and girls.

[OOC: Here's how this will work. "Listen" to Tyler and mingle in the top thread. When you've paired off, start a new thread for that match. Handwave the "one fight at a time" thing. And please try not to send each other to the infirmary -- they'll be busy enough. Thanks.]

Peter danced back several steps after her parry forcing her to follow him before trying to close with him again.

Sword swinging around in a wide circle as she switches her grip, Sakurazaki considers his step back before chosing her next attack. If she had Yuunagi, she wouldn't have to move much at all to send a sweep across his chest. The shortness of the practise sword has her closing the gap between them with a rush forward, swinging again for his left shoulder.

Peter felt rather badly about sparring with Sakurazaki on his terms instead of hers. He made a note in the back of his mind to see if they could fashion or find a practice blade more like her Yuunagi.

He spun at the rush, using one motion to parry the blade, then whip around to a chest-height strike.

Shit, she thinks as her arm naturally moves over to block the sword. Of course Sakurazaki realizes that, were they using steel, such a move would have had her arm sliced off. However, if they were using steel, she'd have Yuunagi's sheath there doing the blocking. As it was, there's probably going to be decent sized bruise there tomorrow.

Still, Sakurazaki tries not to focus on her slip-up. Difference in weapon was no excuse; she'd just have to adapt to this new style better. She pushes Peter's blade back with her arm, as she would have done with Yuunagi's sheath. Since she can't explain the fallacy to him, she quickly strikes again in hopes to just forget about it. She goes for a high sweep, bringing the sword up over her shoulder and leaping up as she tries to bring it down against his neck.

Peter couldn't think too badly of Sakurazaki for the arm block. He still thought of himself as wearing armour half the times he sparred and took hits where he knew it would be covered.

He didn't expect the push against his blade though and was thrown off by that and her leap. Jumping back, he kept the strike away from his head and neck, but took part of it on his upper shoulder.

Which would normally be covered by armour so he wasn't too concerned.

He struck back immediately, taking advantage of his longer reach and trying to slice across her midsection before she came down from the jump.

Seeing where his next attack is focused, Sakurazaki hopes she can land quickly enough, because she knows that she can spring back up and to the side the moment her toe touched the ground. Unfortunately, due to all her training in "flying" in the martial arts sense, she tended to drift when she was about to land.

About two seconds before she touches ground, the slice nicks her side. Since her mind is already focused on springing away, she still does a second later. Her leap takes her face, and she bring her sword back sharply, swinging it through the air as she opens her mouth to call out an attack...

...and remembers after the swing useless swing at nothing that, oh, yeah, she can't call out attacks. Her moment of chastisement probably opens her up pretty well.

Peter was really, really not sure what she was doing but given the spar, he didn't feel too badly taking advantage of the opening.

He strikes directly toward her open side.

In the last second, Sakurazaki's able to snap back into the moment and block the attack. She pushes her sword against Peter's, using it to push herself back, and immediately swing it back around for an attack on the other side.

Ugh, even the shape of the practise sword was different...This was not good.

Peter twisted to block the strike. His block was weaker than he wished so he tried to dance directly towards her following the movement with several short thrusts towards her midsection.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Each dancing step forward that Peter made, Sakurazaki met them as she moved backwards, her sword meeting his with each thrust. All the quick jabs and blocks makes her grin, and she works toward trying to turn the tables on him, so that she's the one doing a thrust and a dance forward here or there in between his own. If only the blades were steel! Nothing would make better music for such dancing than steel on steel.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Peter feels the tide of the movement turning against him, but he was enjoying the interplay of blades too much to really try to change it up. He'd gotten to fight and spar enough at home that he'd missed the interplay with another strong swordsperson more than usual all week.

Finally, as Setsuna was attacking, he parried her blade hard and sent a firm stroke diagonally slicing towards her right shoulder.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Quickly, Sakurazaki pulls her hand in tight against her, causing her sword to block Peter's just as it was about to reach her shoulder. There would be a grunt if she could vocalize as he strains to push his sword back. The moment she pushes enough distance between them, she shifts where she's sending her strength, putting into an attempt to arch their crossed swords over their head and then down to the ground, where hers would be crossed over his and keeping it down.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Peter felt the shift in her strength at the top of the argh and used his greater leverage to try to force her blade to the outside of their bodies. He stepped back quickly to disengage and reset to a ready.

After a brief, silent chuckle, Sakurazaki shifts her grip on her sword with another spin, going for a thrust past his read position, for the spot below his collarbone by his shoulder.

Which - ow - connected even as Peter was backing away. He took half a moment to access the possibility of damage before moving back to engage her with a series of slashing attacks, the last aimed directly for her mid-chest.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
For the most part (and grinning like mad) Sakurazaki's able to block each one of the attacks...except for the very last one, which gets her pretty good. She staggers back a little, one arm crossing over her chest as she silently grunts. But she falters only for a minute, springing back up with a rush forward, sword arching over her head to come down again on Peter's left shoulder. Hey, she liked the left shoulder.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter was definitely having more fun than he'd expected given the possibility of demon attacks and frustration of being pretty helpless to assist with them.

He'd been hit enough times in the darn shoulder - which was going to hurt tomorrow, yes - to start to adjust his stance a bit to protect it. Blocking Sakurazaki's strike with his own blade, he tried to force her blade back up, then disengaging quickly, he arced his towards her unprotected right side.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd almost had her. Due to their difference in size and her all-over, general lightness, Peter forcing her back caused her to stagger a little. But she quickly jumps sideways a bit as she saw his sword coming around for her side, an action that gave her just enough time to block it, even if at an awkward angle.

Awkward, but good for leverage. She forces his sword away, swinging her own around as she assumes a ready position.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter nodded at her parry. He circled for a moment, considering his options. Her size was throwing him off a bit, and he was afraid to hurt her even though he knew full well she was capable of defending herself.

Finally, he stepped in to engage again in another rattle of the practice swords. After a flurry of strikes, he tried again for a blow to the midsection.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oof. Her midsection was quickly becoming her weakspot, it seems. She'd have to keep her blade and his blade high...or particularly low.

With another showy swirl of the sword, Sakurazaki lunges forward, down to one knee, with a clean swipe at Peter's knees. It was a move that worked much better when she had sheath and sword, because then each could approach of each side. But it was still effective with one weapon, hopefully.

And that was an unexpected move to someone used to fighting non-humans. Bigger non-humans. Peter tried to jump back, but took the strike firmly just below the knee. Off balance, he tumbled to the ground then rolled back up to his feet and set a guard position.

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Part of Sakurazaki's grin is for the tumble; the other part is for Peter's roll back up to his feet. She moves in quickly with a side swing for his mid-section, hoping to get him before his guard position is fully set up.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Peter blocked her attack with a vertical sword, pushing her sword away from him. Then he twisted his wrist into an quick jabbing attack towards her chest.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Sakurazaki's block was rushed, fumbled, and mostly awkward, managing to hit the jab away from her chest, although it still manages to hit her shoulder rather hard. With a silent grunt, that shoulder winces, pulling back. She twists her body with the revulsion, using it to execute a similar jab toward Peter with her other arm.

Re: Peter + Sakurazaki

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
This time Peter was the one fumbling at getting his sword back into position and took the jab directly into his left shoulder again. Which hurt more than he'd like to admit. He took two steps back quickly to disengage from the spar than, circling to the right and leading with he right side. He stepped back in, feinting a high strike, then changing quickly into a low attack towards her hip.
