Koala Cabin, Late Afternoon

Bel shimmered over to Koala with his and Phoebe's stuff and the kittens, then lounged outside the cabin, enjoying the heat. The humidity he could do without, but the heat was almost like home.

John lugs his crap in and dies on his bed in a pool of sweaty ex-savior.

Bel eyed John warily as he walked in. "Hey," he said neutrally.

"Yo." He sweated in Bel's direction.
"Who turned the heat on?"

Bel shrugged. "Feels fine to me," he said. "Could do without the humidity."

If a single syllable could convey so much limp flail at the heat and the speaker's general discontent with life in the cabins, the chief reason for this being a vast grassy gulf of space from his girlfriend, that was the one.

"Hey, Jude," Bel said. "What's up?"

"Yay talking," Bel said. "Kinda nice to hear voices again."

"Yeah. All that silence was startin' to seriously harsh my mellow."

"Peaceful, though, aside from the flailing," Bel pointed out.

"I think I'm melting," Dawn said, collapsing near Bel in a heap. "But you look pretty comfortable."

"It's not hotter than hell yet," Bel said with a grin.

She laughed. "No, I guess not. Though I've heard hell is kind of industrial and cement-like. I'd think that would be cooler, like a basement."

Bel chuckled. "Not where I'm from. It's pretty much like the cliches say -- hot, rocky, barren, hellish red glow, occasional pits of lava."

"Oooh, sounds like a great vacation spot," Dawn teased. "Add funky looking shirts and it'll be a tourist mecca."

"Hi there..." Ranma waves on his way back in.

"Hey, Ranma," Bel said. "How goes it?"

"Doing better. How are you doing today?" Mizu, beagle puppy extraordinare, bounds over to invesigate Bel's ankles.

"Enjoying the heat," Bel said, grinning. "About the only one who is though."

"It's not too bad, Japan's pretty hot you know. Where are you from again?" He tugs Mizu away from Bel's ankles in case he's bothering him.

Lana staggered in, dripping wet and carrying all the stuff she'd lugged back to the dorms over the weekend.

"Don't," she said pre-emptively. "I already know. Yes, I'm stupid."

"Didn't say a word," Bel said. He didn't have to.

Lana shook her head. "It just didn't seem quite this hot when I started out. And I didn't realize just how much I had till I was halfway here. And then, believe me, if I'd thought you might be anywhere in earshot..." She smiled sheepishly at him.

Bel crossed his arms. "Mmm hmm," he said. "I also have a cell phone, you know."

Lana smiled even more sheepishly and nodded toward her dresser where her cell phone sat charging. "Left it there this morning by accident."
