The Gym, Early Saturday Morning (Post #1)

The gym was dark and quiet, except for two distinct and opposite corners of the gym, which were very well lit, almost as if it was intentional.

It seemed to be waiting, and a sense of anticipation filled the air. Or maybe it was the orchestra tuning up.

"Hey, Rizz," called Marty as she sat down. "Bum a smoke?"

"What am I today, the goddamn smoke shop?" Rizzo grumbled as she tossed over her rapidly diminishing pack.

"Mine disappeared overnight. I'll sub you back when I get another pack," swore Marty, grabbing one and returning the packet.

"Yeah, so did mine. I, on the other hand, am a bit more resourceful than you are," Rizzo replied, tucking them away. "Couldn't find my jacket either. I swear, if my old lady thought it was hers again . . ."

"Yeah, yeah," said Marty, lighting up. "Mine's gone too. Hey, do you think those guys are pulling something over us?"

Rizzo looked over to where the T-birds had clustered and ran her tongue over her teeth, consideringly. All those tight jeans and tighter shirts. Her mind might have drifted a bit.

"Yeah, maybe. But look, they ain't wearing theirs, either."

Marty glanced over too. "Maybe it's a bit hot?"

She looked back at Rizzo. "Zuko's looking pretty good this year, don't you think?"

"Yeah . . ." Rizzo mused, even if her attention was more fixed on Kenickie. He'd been doing something strenuous recently because . . . slooooow headtilt.
