The Roof, after sunset

Parker's trying to photograph the stars against the trees, and reflected in the water, for Photography class. It's not going as well as she'd hoped.

She is very interruptable.

"Only the one," Parker said carefully. "I apologize for that. Angelo's-- well. Special. For starters. I'm buying drinks for everyone who was inconvenienced and weirded out by him at Caritas on Friday night. Consider yourself invited."

"I can forgive an uninvited guest for the price of a beer," Tyler said, bouncing a pebble in his palm. "What is he, autistic?"

"Yes," Parker said. "Basically, anyway. He's like Bridge, only more so. Empathy ramped up to deafening levels. So, you get the same effect." She looked away, fiddling with her camera. "I've known him since I was ten."

"Childhood sweethearts?," Tyler asked. "That's rough, though. It seems like being psychic is really hard on the brain, somehow." He thought about it. "Maybe not for Bridge."

Parker made a face at him, and said, "Eww. For reasons which.. yeah. Anyway, I don't think you're wrong. Angelo. The last River. This one's better, but still, not fun for her." She cocked her head. "Bridge has an off-switch with the gloves. I think that's a requirement to be okay with it. Being able to *not* be psychic for a while."

"There was a worse River?," Tyler asked. "I can't imagine that."

He looked down. "You know, they did experiments on her brain. Didn't sound fun."

Parker shuddered, because, oh, that's way too close to the bone. "Yes. She mentioned it. And yes, the River we had last fall was-- a lot less coherent. And less likely to ask before picking through your brain." She was quiet a second. "Angelo went through something similar. I think he's as recovered as he's going to get."

The idea of River not even trying to stop herself scared Tyler. "Hope there are people to take care of him," he said.

She smiled a little. "A few. And a playground large enough to get lost in." The smile widened a bit. "And enough Captain Crunch to keep him occupied. So, yeah. He'll be okay." Parker bit her lip. "Anyway. Good beer for you on Friday, pass the word around to anyone else who's mentioned Angelo. I have no idea where he was half the time, John's Radio broadcast was a masterpiece of confusion. As usual."
