Second floor common room [Evening]

Anakin had spent most of the day brooding meditating and replaying the trip to Coruscant in his mind.

The thoughts it had led to had been entirely too depressing.

That's why he had migrated up to the second floor common room and commandeered the television set.

Not that the last Space Battles prequel was any less depressing, but he could keep himself entertained by mocking the terrible technology and equally terrible dialogue.

"Space Battles," Anakin said. "The last one. Middle one. Um. Dark Helmet turns evil."

"With the incredibly bad acting?" Tyler asked. "But I like the plot. And the fight scenes."

"The fight scenes are good," Anakin agreed. "It's a much better movie on mute, really."

"Or fast-forward through anything romantic and then play the rest on mute," Tyler offered. "Bet there's an edit online somewhere like that."

"It'd be about three minutes long and mostly that Staffs of Light duel at the end with Ted Bologna."

"There might also be the part where he kills all the wee'uns with the power of the Thing. That wasn't entirely lame." He crinkled his nose. "What kind of philosophy is just called the Thing, anyhow?"

"One that the director simply wants to use as a way to have interesting attacks without a lot of explaining behind them."

Tyler smirked. "I bet you're right. It's like one of those stupid movies where two people are suddenly one person, so you can be surprised who the villain is."

Hamlet nodded at that, and grabbed a couple more chips. "Exactly. The sort of film where they don't set up who the villain is, so that at the end you're shocked to discover that it was the main character all along."

"And then they die tragically or something, right?" Anakin asked.

"Usually, I'd suppose," Hamlet replied. "I don't see how they could create a sequel where a formerly loved character is suddenly the evil villain to be defeated."

"Maybe you make a new villain," Tyler said. "And the hero who turns into the villain gets to be the hero again."

"I suppose that could work," mused Hamlet, half-watching a space battle start to unfold on the TV screen.

"You would, however, need quite a redemption arc to be able to cleanse a character of their past sins, and regain the audience's sympathy."

"A final act before death?" Tyler asked. "Giving their own life to save someone else. It'd take something on that scale."
