Walter was cooking breakfast and making a list. So far he had a remarkable array of eggs cooked in different styles, a loaf's worth of toast, far too many sausages, and a few boxes of cereal sitting out next to a gallon of milk.

You'd think he was cooking for more than himself. While he worked, a small black puppy scampered at his feet apparently trying to stab a paper ball with a pencil held in his teeth.

The list was for Mary Poppins, who had somehow thought that he'd volunteered as her Teacher's Assistant.

"Do you need any help?"

"If you'd like. Otherwise I have it under control."

"I don't mind. Makes me feel useful."

"I know the feeling. Then you can start by finding all the places people have hidden silverware."

Nadia saluted and set to work.

First, the couch cushions. . . .

Walter started filling the sink and wiping down the counter. "So that Schrodinger kid... Have you met him yet?" Walter wasn't sure whether she'd want to talk about it, but she'd told him he could talk to her about anything.

"I don't think so. Is he the one who knew you?"

"Yeah. He knows me and Hellsing and what a hellhound is." And Alucard.

"That's pretty weird. But aren't Seras and Pip sort of from your world, too?"

"Yeah, but it's weirder because neither of them knew me before I came here and he does." He rolled up his sleeves and started in on the dishes. "Tell me it's a bad idea to ask him about what I'm like in the future."

"It's a bad idea. Aren't you the one who's always telling me I can't take things I know about the future too seriously? He could be from a different future than yours, or something."

"Yeah. I just needed you to tell me that." He glanced over his shoulder at her and smiled faintly. "It's your turn, right?"

Nadia was currently checking under the television for silverware. "To do the dishes?"

"To be the rational one?"

Nadia still hadn't found any silverware. She stood and shrugged. "It was bound to happen eventually."

She wandered over towards Walter, looking at the ground as she kept hunting. And bumped into the table.

With a clatter, several spoons, forks, and knives fell from beneath it.

"Huh."

Walter shook his head, bemused. "I'd lay odds on the catboy or the twins."

He thought about it for a moment then added, "Or gremlins."

"Either or, really." Nadia bent over to start picking the silverware up (probably giving Walter a delightful view). "I'm willing to chalk it up to Fandom weirdness."

Walter was willing to give thanks for Fandom weirdness and enjoy the view.

It probably slowed him down on finishing the dishes, but sometimes sacrifices must be made.

Nadia finished the clean up and stood back up, holding out a bouquet of silverware.

That's it, darlin', be mah special Valentine!

OMG, no. Fruit bat. Not-a-fruit bat!

"So, what are your plans for the day?"

Aww. No more view. Walter drew himself out of his reverie and blinked. "Work this afternoon, but I didn't have anything planned this evening. Did you have any ideas?"

"Well, I was just going to work on my adventure story. But I might be running low on ideas." Nadia grinned.

Walter grinned back and nodded. "If you think you might need some inspiration, you know I would do anything to help."

Well, almost anything, but he didn't think she'd ask for anything he'd say no to after the Cally thing.

"We have, between us, three pairs of handcuffs and quite an assortment of other . . . amusing things."

It was entirely possible that a fair bit of Walter's higher brain function decided it was a lovely time to go on holiday.

"Kicking Jamie out tonight?"
