Marie was tired of being cooped up in her room. She still wasn't sure she was up to the insanity of a common room, so she decided to take advantage of the absolutely gorgeous night and head up to the roof.

"Pretty out," Schrodinger said from Marie's side.

He probably hadn't been there the last time Marie looked.

Marie started and glanced over, drawing back a tiny bit.

"Yes it is."

Schrodinger glanced over. "My ears scare you?"

"No, not at all," Marie said because she hadn't actually noticed them. "I just didn't hear you come out that's all."

"Yeah," Schrodinger said. "I get that a lot." He smiled. "I guess I'm just naturally stealthy!"

"Guess so," Marie agreed. "I'm Marie, by the way." She kept her hands firmly at her sides.

"I'm Schrodinger!" Schrodinger said, extending his hand to shake.

"Nice to meet you," Marie said. "I, um... I'd shake your hand, but I can't touch people."

It was the first time she'd said that aloud to a relative stranger and she felt a little awkward about it.

"Why not? Are you poison?" Schrodinger asked as he peered at her curiously.

Carrying two candles with him, Zuko made his way up to the roof to try medidating there. He had been hoping to have the place by himself and was about to head back down as he noticed people already there. When he heard Schrodinger's question however, he changed his mind.

"Hello, Marie."

"Zuko, hi," Marie looked very relieved to see him and took advantage of his arrival to stand up and move away from Schrodinger.

"Hiiii!" Schrodinger said, bouncing over. "Don't think I've met you, either."

"No," Zuko agreed, frowning at Schrodinger's appearance. "I'm Zuko. Are you a demon or a mutant?"

"Neither," Schrodinger said. "I'm a construct. A chimera. I'm everywhere and nowhere."

Zuko blinked. "You're here."

Schrodinger tilted his head to the side and smiled. "Am I?"

Marie frowned, looking from Schrodinger to Zuko and back.

"We're talking to you," she said.

"You talk to someone on the phone," Schrodinger said. "That doesn't mean that they're there with you."

"Well, no," Marie agreed. "But you're talking to them through technology. I can see you in front of me."

"What if you were to turn around and not face me?" Schrodinger asked. "If you have your backs to me, you don't know that I'm here. Maybe I wouldn't be."

"This is stupid," Zuko ground out. Things already didn't make sense without someone being confusing on purpose.

"Or is it just very, very smart?" Schrodinger asked.

"Definitely stupid," Zuko said, sounding determined.

Marie was frowning and nodding. "It doesn't make sense," she said. "If you weren't here, you couldn't talk to us. Unless you were using hidden microphones or something."

Schrodinger's smile grew. "So you observe me here, therefore I am here?"
