The gym, after CV2

Nadia didn't feel up to going and finding her friends and their parents just yet. She was still feeling weird after her argument with Pippi the night before, and the fact that she knew she wouldn't have anyone there for her just made her less than enthusiastic about the whole Parents' Weekend thing.

So she headed to the gym and grabbed a quarter-staff, and was currently moving very slowly through several defensive moves, taking care to remain as calm and focused on exactly how she was moving as she could.

Cally had been really lax about the whole getting into shape thing, so she had headed down to the gym as well, even if she'd just had Energy and Fitness that morning.

"Hey Nadia," Cally said, before starting her warm up stretches.

Nadia set herself in a defensive stance and slowly started to spin the staff. "Hey, Cally."

"Nice stick," she joked, going through more stretches. "Hiding from the influx of parents?"

"I needed to get in some practice," Nadia responded, neither confirming or denying Cally's guess.

"There's a lot of a call for stick fighting in the world, huh?" Cally smiled, still stretching.

"It's a very good improvisational weapon."

"Isn't the point of an improvised weapon, you know, improvising?" Cally said.

"You can usually find a stick just about anywhere. So if you practice fighting with a stick or a staff, you know you'll be able to use the stick you pick up somewhere else to thebest of your advantage."

"Still working on that whole super spy stuff, huh?" Cally started shaking out her arms.

"I have to stay in practice. I didn't go train for that long for nothing." Dammit.

"How do you sign up to be a super-spy, anyways?" Cally asked. "Is there a recruitment office or something?"

"I don't know. They recruited me, remember? And it probably works differently in different countries."

"So, like, they've still got an open spot for you, once you finish high school? That's neat," Cally said. "Though I guess sorta what's going on with me and the Fleet."

"Something like that,"

Which was a total lie. Since technically, SIDE had never had a spot for her available in the first place.

"You're doing it again," Cally said, flexing her hands and wrists.

Nadia sighed and planted her staff for a moment to lean against it. "Doing what, Cally?"

"Whoa, okay, nevermind," Cally said, throwing up her hands. "If you're cranky, I shouldn't push you."

"I'm not cranky. I'm just not in the mood for you doing things like saying you're trying to upset me and then not explaining why, or accusing me of things that aren't true."

"Okay, are you trying to get in a fight with me?" Cally's brow furrowed a bit.

Nadia sighed and looked down at where the staff touched the floor, then turned to go put it away. "No. I'm not trying to fight with anybody. I'll go."

"You want to know what was up, that day? You really want to know?" Cally said, biting her lip.

Nadia put her staff away and turned to face Cally, pushing her hands into her pockets. "Yes. I do."

"Even if it's messy and problematic and might screw with our friendship?" Cally asked.

[nadiathesaint]

"The fact that you told me you were trying to upset me and then wouldn't tell me why is already messy and problematic and screwing with our friendship."

Cally took a deep breath. She stared at the ground when she spoke, unable to look at Nadia.

"I'm still not, you know, over you. And I hate that. A lot."
