Saturday evening, just outside the school grounds

There really was something irresistable to the trolls about the giant castle thing at the top of the hill.

I mean, come on! Trolls, castle . . . it was like a match made in heaven!

So, once they'd made lots of good headway pillaging and rampaging through the town, the trolls started on their way up the hill, aimed for the gates to the school, grinning and slathering and singing creepy, troll-y songs of glee.

A couple more of the trolls advanced forward, seeking vengeance for the fallen troll. Not realizing that hey, maybe they could die, too.

Kawalsky fired a couple of quick shots while backing off. "You see Molly anywhere, Sam?"

Sam glanced around at the confusion while Kawalsky covered them. "No, why, is she missing?" She fired at the trolls, but not at one in particular. "I can't believe I forgot the explosives."

The one that just got hit yelled, and tried to keep going though he was hurt. The others started to move faster, and one tried to reach out and grab the nearest human thing.

Which happened to be Sam, who hadn't been playing complete attention. She scuttled back, shooting rapidly. "Kawalsky!"

"SAM!" Kawalsky stopped backing off and darted towards them, firing at the troll's head until his clip was empty. Then he pulled out another clip and loaded it, ready to start firing again.

Sam got to her feet as Kawalsky fired and shot the P-90 at the advancing trolls while he reloaded. "I'm okay. Thank god bullets work."

A couple of the trolls fell when shot, turning stony and that was the end of that chapter.

The others looked confused and started yelling roars at Kawalsky and Sam.

"I don't think we're making any friends today. The stone thing? Weird, but what around here isn't?" Charlie risked a glance around at the makeshift battlefield.

"The pool?" Sam suggested, then added, "I could do without the roaring." She glanced behind her, tripped on a troll hand, and fell on her butt. She didn't drop her gun, though.

"Not yet anyway," he replied to Sam's pool comment. He holstered his pistol for a moment and went to help her up. "This isn't working. They're just gonna keep coming."

Sam took the help gratefully. "Do we have a plan?"

"Uh, my plan was to play some video games, then catch the Saturday night Wormhole X-treme marathon."

"There was a marathon?" Sam asked.

Sam snickered. "And they're going to get through all of them in one night?" She stopped. "Oh my god, Daniel! I forgot to check on him!"

"Where would he be? His apartment?"

"I assume so," Sam said, still shooting occasionally at the trolls. "Have you seen Alanna or Jack anywhere?"

He shook his head. "I called Alanna but she wasn't answering. Haven't seen Jack. We're not gonna get through the gates. You wanna try scooting down to the wall and scale over, see if they're in town? I've gotta find Molly too. She packs a punch but if she's worn herself out..." He gave a worried shrug.

"Damn it," Sam groaned, "and yeah, that's as good as anything, I guess. At least we've got speed and intelligence on our side. I think."

He grinned. "I'll take that as a compliment. Let's go." He pointed in one direction. "That way."

Sam headed off in that direction, trying to be sneaky, but also not to trip over the troll parts that were starting to litter the grounds. It took a little time. "Teach me to complain to Cameron," Sam said under her breath.
