Okay, so it wasn't the best planned or fanciest party in the world. There weren't any streamers or banners, just a few hand-scrawled signs on printer paper reading "We're Bored, So Let's Party!" There wasn't even a theme really, but that sort of was the theme, as he and Nadia had concluded yesterday. Besides, Anders was tired and not exactly up to his usual standard of movement. Plus, they were saving all the decorations and planning for the real party, after all the new kids arrived. Oh yes. ~~Mwahahaha.~~

Small tables of snacks, food, and drinks (and of course the ubiquitous supply of cupcakes, since this was after all Anders) had been laid out on all the landings between the first and fifth floors, and the common rooms had been raided for chairs and seat cushions to form makeshift seating areas in the hallways near the stairwells.

Hey, an impromptu party was better than boredom, right?

Z held up her slice of pizza and said, "Pizza. Before pizza? Boredom."

"Good thing Anders and I thought to have this party, then."

"This was definitely a genius idea. So what's up with you?" Z asked.

There was a long list of things Nadia could have mentioned.

Instead she went with "Party!"

"Party!" Z agreed.

"How was your holiday?"

Z shrugged and said, "I pretty much slept through it. It's not really a big deal to me."

Nadia nodded. "That's cool. At least you got plenty of sleep."

"This is true," Z said with a nod. "Sleep is very important. Without sleep, we would all go insane. Insaner. More insane."

"Oh, definitely. Sleep deprivation is a method of torture used by many different governments and radical groups. It's very effective."

"...Sure, if you say so," Z said.

"It is. We learned all about it in the training I did last summer." Nadia paused to think about how she sounded. "And I'm not a crazy torturing person, I swear."

"Your training sounds much more...interesting than mine," Z said. "Also, I'm sure your hot sauce there could be used for some form of torture. But I don't want to know what it is," she added quickly. She liked Nadia. She didn't want to know the myriad ways Nadia could make her crack like an egg.

Nadia shook her head. "Hot sauce isn't for torture. It's for tasty things."

"This is very true," Z agreed. "I wonder what it would do for pizza..."

"It's practically magic. It makes EVERYTHING better."

"Except ice cream," Z said.

"Not true. Sweet and spicy is a great combination."

"This may be because I'm only half-Hispanic," Z said. "I'm sorry. I'm letting our side down with my defective taste buds."

"Weirdo," Nadia told her good-naturedly. "Still, more for me."

"See? There's an upside to my preference for bland ice cream."

"You ought to be British."

Z made a face. "Ew, no. They eat toads in holes or something like that."

"But they do like bland food. I think they probably make earl grey ice cream."

"I like spicy food!" Z objected. "I just don't like spicy ice cream. Fried ice cream, now, is another story..."
