Third Floor Common Room - Thursday Morning

Katara had woken up early and slipped out of her dorm room quietly. She considered going outside for a moment, but she decided to explore the floor she'd ended up on.

Finding herself in a big open room with several couches and tables and quite a few big boxes she had no idea about, she up a small floppy book made out of shiny paper and began to flip through it, looking at the pictures.

Dawn tried not to be horrified at the idea that someone didn't know cocoa with mini marshmallows. "No, not at all. It's chocolate, only warm toasty goodness, and little wee sugar blobs that float on top."

"Chocolate?" Katara asked.

"You've never heard of chocolate?" Dawn did some rummaging in the cupboards, until she found an open bag of chocolate chips, left over from the last time someone had made cookies. She passed it over. "Okay, this has to be fixed immediately." Dawn ate a couple, just to show they were safe.

Katara was amused at Dawn's determination and smiled at her before trying a few of the chocolate chips. "Oooh," she said happily before eating another. "These are good. Much better than coffee."

"Yeah, coffee's kind of an acquired taste. Chocolate's just yum."

"It seems silly to acquire a taste that isn't very nice to begin with."

Dawn grinned. "I'd stay away from alcohol and smoking, then, on the same principle."

"I'll keep that in mind," Katara said with a grin back. "Have you been here at the school for very long?"

"Since May. I got here for summer camp and never went home."

"You must like it?" Katara asked. "Everyone I've talked to seems to."

Dawn smiled. "Yeah, I like it here a lot. It's nuts, but it's ours."

"Definitely very crazy," she agreed.

"Oh, it gets weirder," Dawn said, with an excitement that may not have been completely reassuring. "But usually in a good way."

Katara grinned. "If you say so. What are the good things? The trolls and the zombies and the mummies?" Katara had no idea what those were really. But they'd been mentioned to her as benefits of Fandom.

"Er...I was thinking more about all the different people you meet, and places you can go," Dawn said, thinking of her trip to Tortall with Alanna. "Also, the boys are cute and like to wander around shirtless, if you're into that."

"There are very cute boys," Katara agreed enthusiastically. She smiled, a bit embarrassed at her enthusiasm. "I've been traveling with my brother and a younger friend for months now. Non-related boys are lovely."

Dawn grinned. "Especially here. A bunch of them always end up dating each other, but they're still pretty."

Katara nodded then cocked her head. "Whyever would they do that?"

"Because they think the other boys are as pretty as we do?" Dawn suggested, hoping she wasn't going to scar the newbie.

"Huh." Katara said, deciding that she couldn't argue with that logic.
