Third Floor Common Room - Thursday Morning

Katara had woken up early and slipped out of her dorm room quietly. She considered going outside for a moment, but she decided to explore the floor she'd ended up on.

Finding herself in a big open room with several couches and tables and quite a few big boxes she had no idea about, she up a small floppy book made out of shiny paper and began to flip through it, looking at the pictures.

"Oh, wow." The South Pole. That was a new one. "Water Tribes?" Her curiousity peaked.

Katara nodded. "There are four peoples that make up the world. Water Tribes, Air Nomads, Earth Kingdom, and the Fire Nation." Her distaste at the last was evident.

"Oh, it makes sense now." Tori had noticed the tone inflicted when mentioning the Fire Nation, but she decided not to ask. "Where I come from, I have the power to control water." She added.

"You're a waterbender!" Katara said excitedly. She glanced around and pulled a flow of juice out of her cup and let it hover over her hands. "Me too."

As many times as she had used her power, it would never get old seeing others display it. "I am." Tori smiled, glad to know they had something in common, and not just being new students. "Two peas in a pod, as my mom would say."

Katara laughed and let the juice drop back into the cup. "I think you're right. I've never met a female waterbender my age before. I was the only one at the South Pole. Everyone else went to the war." She tilted her head looking at Tori. "Does your waterbending change with the phases of the moon?"

Tori knew what it was like to be the only one, before the other students had been rescued. It was somewhat lonely. "I don't think so." Tori shook her head, she hadn't known her power to change. "I'm assuming yours does?"

She nodded. "They say the first waterbenders were taught by the moon. So my waterbending is always strongest at the full moon."

Tori was intrigued. "Oh, wow. I honestly never knew that." Maybe while she was here, she could test that piece of knowledge.

"It's the full moon tonight," Katara said with a grin at Tori. "And we have an ocean nearby."

Tori grinned brightly. "I'm up for it, if you are...?" She knew Katara was because she had been the one to suggest it. And to think, Tori was going to ask when the next fool moon was.

"Absolutely," Katara was definitely excited at the thought. "Shall we walk down to the beach at moon rise?"
