Marie realized that she hadn't met any new people yet. She had seen the signs for Anders and Nadia's party, but she didn't think she was ready to be quite that sociable yet.

So she settled in to the common room with some pizza and the season one Wendy the Werewolf Stalker DVDs that she had picked up ages ago and never watched.

"Apparently in some universes," Marie replied. "I just found out I had powers back in September. A few people here know alternate universe versions of me who go by that name."

"Wow," Cassie said. "That's... kinda cool."

Marie shrugged. "I guess she's a superhero or something. I'm not."

"You're not?" Cassie said.

"I don't think I am," Marie said.

"Well, then I guess you're not," Cassie said. "Cause being a hero's all in the attitude, I think."

"Is that what makes you a hero?" Marie asked.

"Yeah," Cassie said. "And it's what makes my friend Kate a hero, and she doesn't even have any powers."

"I think my powers are more of a nuisance than anything," Marie admitted.

"Yeah, the whole not touching thing has to suck," Cassie said.

Marie nodded. "Luckily I have the best boyfriend on the planet."

"That's cool," Cassie said. "My last boyfriend... okay, that's sorta a long story. And we kinda weren't... yeah."

"Have you met Jamie?" Marie asked. "That's my boyfriend. I put him in a coma the first time we kissed and he still loves me."

"Yeah, he's really nice," Cassie said. "Must be really nice having a boyfriend who can be, like, spending time with you and doing his homework at the same time."

"It can come in handy," Marie agreed.

"And you don't have to worry about him growing up to be an evil megalomaniac," Cassie mumbled.

Marie blinked. "No," she replied. "Just randomly evil dupes."

Cassie realized she'd taken the conversation on a turn for the worse.

"So, who's your favorite character on Wendy?"

"Hmm, I dunno, I kind of like the boy who is friends with Wendy and has a huge crush on her."

"Definitely a good one," Cassie said. "Though I kinda like Thorn. I mean, up until season six."

Marie nodded. "Thorn is pretty cool."

And as Cassie has now exhausted her repertoire of talking about Wendy the Werewolf Stalker, she pauses again.

"Ummm, so, thanks for the pizza."

"You're welcome," Marie said. "So what year are you?"

"Freshman," Cassie said. "Kinda thought that would be obvious."

"One thing you'll learn really fast around here is to never assume anything," Marie said. "I'm a freshman, too. Actually, I'm one of the student council reps for our class."
