Third Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning

Dawn was wearing the same jeans and sweater she'd been wearing yesterday, not wanting to head back to her room and too tall to borrow Molly's. She was also freezing, which had led to her mixing up a very large pot of oatmeal. The fixings were in the cupboard if anyone wanted them, but she wasn't setting them out.

Instead, she was sitting with her bowl of healthy goodness (once you ignored the raisins and brown sugar she'd added to her own) and a very, very large mug of hot cocoa with mini marshmallows. She read through a large pile of books and scrolls she'd brought with her and that Giles had sent since May (not all of which were in English), trying to find anything that explained what was going on.

She made occasional notes on a pad as she worked.

"Hello there!" Zero said to her. "Would you like to be in my documentary?"

"Documentary of what?" Nefertiri speared a pineapple with her fork, and looked curious. "What events are you immortalizing?"

"The events that happen at this school. When people stop being polite and start being real and I really hope The Real World doesn't sue me for that." Zero beamed at her hopefully. "So what's your name?"

"Nefertiri, princess of Egypt, of the line of Amon-Ra," she said, intrigued. "Politeness is not required, merely pleasant. I do not believe I know your name. Are you a scribe of some kind? Or a priestess?"

"I'm very pleased to meet you, your highness," Zero said politely. "My name is Zero. Priestess, ha. I'm a student and occasional independent filmmaker. This weekend, at least."

"I see," Nefertiri said, though mostly she didn't. "Then in the spirit of politeness, there should be more dancing boys. Preferably naked. Although shirtless is fine, in deference to the weather."

"I'm sure the administration will take that under advisement," Zero told her. "So, what's Egypt like?"

"Busier. Much more colors, more smells, more bustle! Street vendors and players, soldiers and sellers, artisans and musicians on every corner. This place is so empty." Nefertiri frowned. "Your technology interests me, though. I shall be taking it back to Egypt, in order that my father the Pharoah may defeat his enemies, should they come again."

"Uh, yeh, don' think it works that way. Sorry."

Nefertiri looked put out. But only a little. "Then I shall find a way. The Persians and the armies of the Scorpion King shall not be threats in my life time." She cocked her head, studying Zero. "You would make a good temple dancer, with that hair and your size. Can you do this?"

She stood on her hands, and walked toward Zero, seemingly without effort.

"Why would I want to?" Zero asked her. But she was careful to record the hands-walking.
