Third Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning

Dawn was wearing the same jeans and sweater she'd been wearing yesterday, not wanting to head back to her room and too tall to borrow Molly's. She was also freezing, which had led to her mixing up a very large pot of oatmeal. The fixings were in the cupboard if anyone wanted them, but she wasn't setting them out.

Instead, she was sitting with her bowl of healthy goodness (once you ignored the raisins and brown sugar she'd added to her own) and a very, very large mug of hot cocoa with mini marshmallows. She read through a large pile of books and scrolls she'd brought with her and that Giles had sent since May (not all of which were in English), trying to find anything that explained what was going on.

She made occasional notes on a pad as she worked.

"Yep," Cally said. "'ow are you?"

"Not bad," Alec said, frowning a little. "Seems like a lot of people are getting hurt lately though."

Cally nodded. "Somethin' is out there," she said. "Something scary."

"Hope someone finds out what it is before it gets anyone else," he murmured, glancing around the room.

Cally nodded. "Me too. No one else deserves this."

"I'm surprised no one seems to be making a big deal out of this," Alec said, frowning. "I mean, with all the hero-types around, you'd think people would be demanding some kind of investigation."

"Nadia's been looking into it," Cally said. "And Veronica's tryin' to. And Piper."

"Not a lot they can do when they're not even here," Alec said, then shrugged. "Least someone's doing it, I guess."

Cally shrugged. "Guess people don't notice it or something."

"Scary thought," Alec said almost solemnly.

Cally nodded. "Then again, 'uff like the weekend happens, and everyone gets distracted."
