[2nd Floor Common Room, Thursday Morning]

Alec had apparently decided to take Hades' announcement to heart today, as he sat in the common room kitchen with a giant pot on the stove and many weetiny penguins running around. The stove was on, the water coming to a boil, and Alec was hungry.

"Yes, but unfortunately, this penguinbird is made of meat," Sokka told her, "and meat is so tasty. That's the natural order of things."

He glared at her. "So, you don't get any."

"WHO DOES WANT SOME?" he shouted, again.

Rikku crouched, eyes narrowing. "I'm warning you. Put the penguin down, now."

Sokka's eyes narrowed. A girl. He was being threatened by a girl.

...He tried not to let his fear show.

Thankfully, just then Alec handed him a knife (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhighdorms/1034738.html?thread=85377522#t85377522). Girl or not, she didn't have a weapon and he did. That changed things.

He brought the knife up and pointed it at her. "Or you'll what?" he asked, cocky and self-assured.

The penguin he was holding meeped and struggled to get down.

"This," Rikku announced. Her hand shot out and clamped around his wrist, wrenching it as hard as she could to the side.

Like she was scared of a knife. Boys were stupid.

"AAAAAARGH!" Sokka howled, and he twisted around, trying to follow his wrist. The knife clattered uselessly to the side. And he dropped -- almost dropped -- the penguin in his other hand. Even in the midst of the pain he was in, he had enough presence to lean over as far as possible, set it down gently on the floor, and tap its butt to make it waddle away.

"That HURTS!" Sokka complained, trying to yank his hand away.

Katara immediately pulled a flow of water from her waterskin and marched over behind Rikku.

"Hey. Let go of my brother," she said, glaring at the other girl.

Rikku dropped her hold on Sokka's wrist and turned to face Katara. "Hey! He had a knife! He was gonna cut up the penguins!"

"I can handle this on my ooo-wn," Sokka shot at Katara through clenched teech, in a sing-song voice.

He rubbed his wrist and winced.

"I was gonna wring their necks first," he pouted at Rikku. "I'm not evil, just hungry."

"That doesn't mean you get to hit him!" Katara said to Rikku at least according to her very strong belief that the only person allowed to hit Sokka was herself.

"And there's plenty of other food than very, very cute penguins! Why do you have to eat them? Go make a sandwich," she glared at Sokka.

"I didn't hit him!" Rikku protested. "I was gonna hit him, but then he pulled a stupid knife on me!"

She turned to Sokka. "And not even a big one! You're not very good at this whole being-threatening thing, are you!?"

"It was his idea!" Sokka said to Katara, pointing at Alec. "And it's a good one. Penguins are tasty."

"And I am too threatening!" He puffed himself up and tried to look scary. "Katara, tell her I'm threatening!"

"Penguins are tasty!" Katara agreed. "We don't eat penguin babies though!"

She paused and looked at Rikku. "Ummm..."

"But they're not babies," Sokka insisted. "They're very, very tiny adults. Which means they're ripe."

"It doesn't matter how old they are! Penguins are not food!" Rikku folded her arms, giving both of them a shocked look.

Then she turned to Sokka and sighed. "Look, if I say you're really threatening and act like I was totally scared or something, will you stop being mean to the penguins?"

"I'm not being mean to them!" Sokka protested.

"...FINE!" Exasperated, he threw his hands up in the air. "I won't cook any penguins. Are you happy?"

He looked around the room. "Is everybody happy???" he shouted.

"Except that there's nothing wrong with eating penguins when they're grown up," she added to Rikku.
