[2nd Floor Common Room, Thursday Morning]

Alec had apparently decided to take Hades' announcement to heart today, as he sat in the common room kitchen with a giant pot on the stove and many weetiny penguins running around. The stove was on, the water coming to a boil, and Alec was hungry.

After class, Dawn stopped into the second floor common room, since the third seemed to be out of pop tarts. "Hey, Alec. What're you making?" Maybe she could mooch.

At her feet were some small penguins that seemed to be forming themselves into a chorus of some kind.

"Penguins," Alec said distractedly, watching the water as it bubbled a little, heating up. "I'm thinking if you get enough of them, you can make them like pasta or beans."

Dawn stared at him in horror. There may have also been squeaking. "You can't eat the penguins!" And now there was flailing. "They're cute, and wee, and...and and penguiny! Penguins are not for eating! Can't you have a bagel or something?"

Jaye had been going to head downstairs, but she's been fighting on the stairwell with a weetiny penguin that insists on clinging to her shoe. She'd rather not knock it off and squish it, because ew, so she finally stops at the next landing and wanders into a common room just to complain, "There's a penguin on my foot."

Alec turned to look at Dawn bemusedly. "I want meat. Penguins are made of meat, right?"

"Give it to me," Alec said, waving her over. "I need a few more or they're not going to be worth cooking."

"Yes, but...no eating the penguins! How about a hot dog? Or maybe a burger?" She said hopefully.

She stares at him. It's almost surprising that some things still make her go, "Wait, what?"

Layla was doing her best to not squish any of the penguins as she came downstairs, and peeked into the common room to see if anyone was inside. "Hi!" she said to Alec. "Oooh, are you cooking something for the penguins?"

"Do you have either one of those things?" Alec raised an eyebrow, looking Dawn over.

"It's not worth cooking one or two," he explained, oblivious. "So I need a whole bunch. At least they're not afraid of people, so it'll be easy to gather them, but more couldn't hurt."

"You know... I don't think penguins are delicacies anywhere," she says slowly.

"Layla! I am cooking penguins," Alec said, apparently still not at all deterred from his plan. "I think maybe with a sauce of some kind."

"They might be," Alec says, eyes widening. "But so what?"

"Not in my pockets," she said defensively as she opened the fridge and peered in, then turned around to look over her shoulder at Alec. "Is this a cat-slash-bird thing? Oooh, cheese." She set that aside. It wasn't meat for Alec, but he wasn't the only one hungry. "Um...okay, maybe neither of those things are here, but that doesn't mean you should eat weetiny defenseless penguins."

Layla stared and pulled the weetiny penguin she was holding closer to herself. "What?! You can't eat penguins!"

"But... they're penguins," Jaye says. "I'm pretty sure you're a poacher if you eat zoo animals or something."

"Ooh, cheese would be good on them," he said, finding a big bowl in a cupboard and beginning to gather weetiny penguins in it while the water continued to heat up. "Why shouldn't I though?"

"I'm pretty sure you can," Alec said slowly, leaning back against the counter thoughtfully. "But they'd be pretty crunchy raw, so I'm going to cook them first."

And now Dawn was moving the cheese away from Alec. "Because there's not much meat on them and it would take forever to get full? Plus, feathers." She oh-so-stealthily tried to sneak the bowl o'penguins away from Alec.

Neil came down the stairs from the third floor.

"Hey, any penguins down here? We've got a nice pool for them to play with up on three and... oh! You have a pool down here too...wait...why is your pool steaming?"

"They're not in a zoo," Alec points out. "They're in Fandom. And I think you poach eggs, not penguins."

"You're going to boil them?!" The penguin in Layla's arms squeaked as she pulled it closer unconsciously. "You can't! They're so tiny and harmless and eating meat is bad! So bad! Especially when it's adorable!"

Alec frowned when he turned to put a penguin in the bowl that had snuck several inches to the left. "I think if you cook them, you probably wouldn't even notice the feathers. And they're kind of chunky for weetiny things."

"Well, they would be in a zoo, but they're not, and you can totally poach animals, just... not like eggs." She sighs. "Why don't you go lick Stickbug again? I'm sure it's the same thing, and maybe more nutritious."
