Chupacabra Campfire [Late Afternoon]

Being inside the cabin means he can't run away should anyway try to tease him. Being outside, at least, means he can try and run away. Still, it's not like either option is good.

ONE WEEK.

He's been here one week and already he's made a gigantic fool of himself. He didn't even know who Siegfried and Roy were. And he told Luke waaaaaaaay too much. And thought the droid was a tiger.

He pulled a jacket over his head and tried to hide...in plain sight.

"Maybe someone else will do something embarrassing and everyone will forget?" She suggested hopefully.

That actually made him laugh. "I hope so. If not, I might have to run away from here and live off the land."

"Can you do that? And I'd hate to see that happen," she added.

"...probably not," he confessed. "Since I don't really know this place and all. And I'd lose out on seeing someone embarrassed themselves more than me."

"So I guess you'll have to stay here, then."

"I guess so," he said and sighed dramatically. "I might get teased. A lot."

"I could protect you," she offered, "I'm very fierce."

Sometimes this was even true.

"Really?" He smiled a little. "How fierce is very fierce?"

"I look very stern," Inara replied, "and I'm not above doing something unsavory to their undergarments, but that tends to be a last resort."

"That's very fierce," he said, smiling again. "I've never had someone to do something to someone's underthings for me."

"Yes, well," she fidgeted slightly on her log, suddenly uncomfortable.

"Sorry," he said, blushing himself. "For...sorry."

"For what?" Inara hadn't meant to do that.

"I thought I made you uncomfortable," he said.

"I made myself uncomfortable. I'm not very used to just talking to boys," she explained, "so I'm not quite...I'm more awkward than I should be."

"Oh, oh," he said, relaxing a little. "You're not awkward. I like talking to you."

"I like talking to you, too." And wow, she wasn't used to blushing. This hadn't happened as much at the House.

He grinned in return and blushed a little himself. Really, his cheeks should just stay pink.

"Good," he managed to say. "We should talk more then."

Because that was smooth and all.

Inara had way too much practice with smooth. This was...honest. "I'd like that."

"I thought I was a magician last night," he said, figuring this was honest talking if anything. "And I used a stick as a saw. And locked someone in an invisible bubble."

"Did you let them out?" She asked, trying not to laugh. "And better a stick than a real saw, since I assume you're not really a magician?"

"I barely know what a magician is," he admitted. "And yes, he got out. I thought I did a very difficult trick by making him invisible. And I talked to an audience that wasn't there."

"But you're alright now?"

"I think so," he said. "No more bad accent. And no more glitter. And you're really here...I hope."

Inara poked herself in the arm. "I seem to be, but no guarantees, I guess."
